The most important part of an automobilewas the engine where the power was created from fuel. The various parts of an engine werepiston, cylinder, crank shaft, valves and flywheel. In this project the main discussion was basedupon the functioning and the mechanism of the flywheel. Flywheel was one of the oldestinventions in the history of mechanical engineering and it was applied in several cases. Modernelectric cars were utilised with the automotive flywheel to be run smoothly. In this project thechange in the flywheel was done by increasing its cross sectional area and converting its shape toa dome like structure and by differing the material with lighter material. In this project the engine
which was chosen, was the TVS Apache RTR 180cc of the motorcycle. The simulation of thesystem was designed by software called the Solid Works. Then the Ansys software was used forthe analysis of the design of the flywheel. Before that the flywheel was also tested with the newmaterial. Important parameters regarding the flywheel were safety factor, natural frequency andthe capability of power generation on the basis of which the flywheel was analysed. CE 1.2.2 Objectives developed for the projectThe objectives of this project were given below.To understand the working principle and the structure of an engine.To understand the working principle of flywheel.To design an engine and to simulate it for better performance and powergeneration.To design a flywheel with dome shaped structure and with lighter material.To analyze and simulate the functioning of the flywheel after the modifications byAnsys and Solid Work software.CE 1.2.3 My area of workI have been assigned this project for designing and analysis of dome shaped flywheel ofan engine with lighter material. I have chosen this project for the completion of my BTECHdegree in Mechanical Engineering. I have chosen the TVS Apache RTR 180cc engine of themotorcycle for the analysis. I have analysed all the parts of the engine with respect to thefunctioning and the specifications.
