2CONCEPT OF EV BATTERY 1. Introduction The feasibility is based on the discussion of high-cost batteries, which are considered as the limiting factors for the sale of Electric Vehicles (EV). Researchers are finding ways for reducing the high cost of batteries. Possible solutions such as the reuse of old or used batteries have been researched. The main focus is that a used battery could be revamped, sold and also reused within any other application. This would help in recovering some of the initial cost of the battery that could be further used in the next application. 2. Purpose The purpose of the feasibility study is to evaluate the economic and technical feasibility based on the application of used EV batteries within various stationary applications. This feasibility study is meant for the use of intended stakeholders of DOE Energy Storage Systems Program, battery manufacturers and automakers. 3. Scope The feasibility study helps in analysing the feasibility of the chosen research based on the reuse of EV batteries. The study puts major focus on the potential applications for which this research could be made. An economic analysis is also conducted for the purpose of determining feasibility of spent EV batteries in various applications. The goals for the proposed system have been outlined. The main functions of the proposed system have been explained. The issues, constraints and assumptions for the proposed system have also been identified. The findings and recommendations within the feasibility of proposed system have been provided. The research documents, which have been used for development of study have been listed within the references section.
3CONCEPT OF EV BATTERY 4. Goals The primary goals of the feasibility study are: 1. To discuss on the ways for providing EV owners to reclaim a certain portion of the original purchased price of battery. 2. To provide research on the ways of lowering cost of advanced batteries. 5. Summary of analyses 1, 2 and 3 From the analyses of 1, 2 and 3, it could be summarized that this study is mainly focused on discussing on the ways in which the price of EV battery could be reduced and used for further usage. The study also discusses on different stationary applications that could make use of EV batteries. 6. Issues The issues found during the research are: 1. The battery modules of non-standardized battery could make use of matched strings based on similar capacities. 2. The difficulty for determination of costs and warranty terms have been identified. 3. The mechanism for determining the value of second used battery that could return to the EV owners would be difficult to understand. 4. The perceived value of used batteries compared to new batteries would be difficult to determine for consumers.

Recommendations Some recommendations that could be put forward are that testing should be performed on the used EV batteries for determining their performances in the various stationary applications. Different prototype systems could be designed for testing in order to determine economic feasibility after the launch of the concept.
