INTRODUCTIONTourism industry now-a-days has become very competitive and earning higher revenues. It is contributing to a high extent in the economic stability of a nation. In order to survive in thelong run, firms in tourism sector are now required to run their activities in a sustainable manner. It means all operations are needed to be run in an environmental friendly way so that the natureas well as society would not get hampered. For the same, government has imposed many lawsand legislations that this sector needs to follow (Sustainable tourism, 2015). Apart from that, along with running business activities in an environmental friendly way, it is also important thatall working practices will be carried out ethically, that is, in a fair and transparent manner. In the present report, all concepts and aspects related to sustainable tourism will beunderstood with reference to the given Philippinescase study. There will be discussion ondifferent ways in which stakeholders of firms can get benefitted from the planning of tourismdevelopment. Also, a study will be made on the factors that may prevent/hinder sustainabletourism development. Along with that, current issues associated with tourism development in adeveloping country and an emerging destination where the impacts of tourism are different willbe compared and recommendations for future development of tourism in these chosendestinations will be made. Apart from that, many other concepts will also be understood inrelation to sustainable tourism with reference to Philippinescase study.TASK 1It is a fact that stakeholders always play a significant role in making a businesssuccessful. They are the people in tourism firms by whom services and practices are managed. As per given Philippinescase study, for the tourism sector of this nation, stakeholders are themost important assets. Demand for travel and tourism is influenced and get affected by thesepeople only. Philippines tourism industry has many stakeholders however, the major one arelocal residents and government as well as audiences/tourists. Without the efforts of these people, demand of customers in tourism industry cannot be maintained. Being the important stakeholdersof Philippine tourism industry, it is their responsibility to increase number of visitors in thenation (Gjerald and Oggard, 2010). Thus, in order to keep the demand of tourism business ofPhilippine high, industry is required to involve these stakeholders in the planning process byinviting their suggestions and views with respect to different aspects of tourism so as to finalise2

the decision. With the help of this, planning procedure would prove to be effective and smooththat will render positive results in the interest of nation. Some of the major stakeholders ofPhilippines tourism industry are stated as below:Local residents: People who live inside the nation since a long time are the residents overthere. They are the individuals who have maximum information about their nation andthus, when they would get involved in the planning process of tourism industry ofPhilippine for bringing sustainable activities in business, it will prove to be highlyadvantageous for the nation. The Philippine tourism industry tourism made a promise tothe nation that it will increase the employment and income opportunities for citizensliving there especially for Filipinos that reside at seaside and rural parts of country (OurSustainability Purposes, 2016). Thus, if planning for sustainable tourism will be done inthis country, it will help these stakeholders in raising their standard of living as theywould get employment and education opportunities.Customers/tourists: They are the most important stakeholders without whom tourismfirms in Philippine cannot survive as these people only lead firms to earn profits and runtheir business activities. However, if tourists would not come If people would not cometo visit the nation, then tourism industry of Philippine will not be able to earn and thus, without inflow of money, economy would start getting decline. Therefore, it can be saidthat customers are the sole element for the survival of tourism business (SwarbrookeandHorner, 2012). This is the reason; to offer sustainable tourism is important now-a-days as destinations where there tourism is not being run in a sustainable manner, peopledo not desire to visit there. Thus, by emphasising on the current trends and need oftourists, planning process for sustainable tourism can be effectually done. Through thesame, they would become willing to visit the place and feel pleasure over there (Uysaland Williams, 2013). Customer are very important in making a business success. Ifpeople avoid visiting a new destination then tourism company will be affected by it. Sotourism company need to provide a different attractive services to its customer, itencourage them to visit a new place. Further tourism company also need take itscustomer at new destination. If a tourism company not took its customer to a newdestination then they may avoid travelling which can affects company profitability. 3

Government: Apart from that, government is also a major stakeholder of Philippinetourism industry and if it is not taken with due consideration, firms in this sector mayhave to face severe consequences. Regulatory authorities of nation impose many rulesand regulations for tourism industry that the firms need to follow to run in a smooth wayas if these restrictions will be ignored, organisations will have to pay for the same. Apartfrom that, with the support of government only, visitors can travel from different placesand visit Philippine (Cruz, 2010). For that, they need to comply with all formalities statedby government of nation. In case if tourism industry of Philippine wants to bring somespecific modifications in it, it needs to take proper permission from the ruling bodies ofcountry. Thus, for sustainable tourism, when government will permit the industry, it canbring suitable and specified changes. However, not only the industry but government alsogets benefitted from the same as through making required developments, economy willbe able to earn in an attractive manner that will be advantageous for regulatory authoritiesof nation as well (Dempsey and et.al., 2011).1.2In tourism industry of Philippine, several private and public firms are operating. They arerunning business activities in their own way. These firms are making tourism services availableto the tourists in such a way that they would repeat their visits and influence others also for thesame. In public sector firms, facilities offered by government like transportation andaccommodation are included that provide convenience to the customers. While, in private sectorfirms, amenities such as hotels, restaurants and transportation are included (Stakeholders andpublic private partnerships role in tourism management, 2013). These firms are privately owned, that is, single owner are there who formulate policies and make employees react accordingly. Inthe present scenario, tourism companies of both the sectors are getting merged so that their scopeof business can be increased along with enhanced profits and market share. Through this way, these firms are serving customers with high quality services as after getting merged, theirresources get increased which they can effectually use (Abu and et.al., 2012). However,public/private sector tourism planning partnerships have some limitations as well. Some of theadvantages as well as disadvantages of this partnership is stated as below:Advantages:4
