Conclusion
Botox is being used for several cosmetic
purposes since a long time. In the recent
advances it has been seen that Botox
therapy is also being used for the
treatment of severe contraction of
muscles and joints. It is a supported fact
that Botox enhances easier muscle
movement (Godoy et al., 2016). However,
the use of this treatment is helpful or a
hindrance to the lifespan of an individual
is still a question.

Quantitative: Botulinum toxin Type A treatment
had an elevation of 700% from the year 2000. It
increased to 6.3 million in 2013 (Godoy,
Donahue & Torriani, 2016).
Qualitative: It is widely popular amongst
geriatric patients because of its role in
removing wrinkles and curing muscle
contraction or spasticity.
After coming across the literature review it
is safe to say that pharmacotherapy such
as Botox therapy has been beneficial for
the treatment of spasticity and several
neurodegenerative disorders other than
cosmetic issues. Few studies suggest that
Botulinum toxin injections enhances the
longevity of an individual as well (Singh,
2014).

Implications
Botulinum toxin is a required treatment for
spasticity and musculoskeletal pains. As it
is beneficial for fastening the speed and
flexibility of the movement in geriatric
patients. Nursing practice should be well
utilized in this field so that quality service is
given to geriatric patients without the side
effects of a shorter life span (Borodic &
Acquadro, 2017).
Botulinum Toxin has been an
effective management for spasticity
in geriatric patients due to its
purpose of relaxing the muscles
because it releases neuromuscular
blockers. It has been licensed for
wider use in children as well as
adults.
