the use of best available practice that has been verified through research studies. This means that
medical and clinical professionals are charged with the responsibility of ensuring that they
practice using available evidence to provide efficient patient care and clinical response to the
medical challenges that they face (Polit & Beck, 2014). When using evidence in research, the
hierarchy of the evidence determines its reliability and the applicability of its recommendations.
Patients who are admitted acute care and have challenges ingesting food, fluids, and medication
require ingestion assistance. This means that a nasogastric tube has to be inserted so that the
fluids can be passed through. Evidence-based approaches require that the professional either then
the nurse or the physician needs to confirm the correct placement of the tube before it can be
used.
