1CONFLICT MANAGEMENT BY INDRA NOOYI
Strategies play a vital role in an organization in gaining competitive advantage in the market.
Business organizations follow systematic strategies to gain profits. In a competitive market,
one business wins and other loses. As a strategy of conflict management, highly positive
personalities often lose in the competition. The competitive conflict management strategy
works perfectly in few of the conflicts like in any emergency circumstance. Generally, the
owners of the business benefit by utilizing the competitive strategy in the time of crisis
(David & David, 2013).
Indra Nooyi, one of the world’s hundred most powerful women is an Indian
American. She joined PepsiCo in the year 1994 and became a CEO in the year 2001 and soon
after in the year 2006 she became the President of the organization. Nooyi’s conflict
management style could never please all the parties involved. In the time of presidential
election, Nooyi’s statement about her workers in respect to Trump’s presidential win, created
controversy (Kaplan, 2017). The repercussion for her comments had forced Pepsi Company
to apologize. In order to diffuse the situation Nooyi followed the accommodative style. She
stepped forward to join Trump’s council of CEO of America in order to please the customers
of Pepsi who are the supporters of Trump. Her actions have also portrayed the collaborative
conflict management style as she listened to the opinions of her employees and in turn
pleased the offended party. Her technique to the collaborative approach was to take
responsibility of resolving the issue by apologizing. Her great skills of managing conflicts
have made her a successful leader.
