Congestive heart failure
Congestive heart failure (CHF) in women is more common than men (Laughlin-
Tommaso et al., 2016). This essay focuses on the congestive heart failure in women. The
physical manifestation along with the associated pathophysiology is mentioned in the essay. The
signs and symptoms of the congestive heart failure is stated in the essay along with the
diagnostic and treatment of the congestive heart failure in case of women. The health promotion
strategy and the teaching programs which help in reducing the prevalence of CHF is stated.
Cardiovascular disease is considered as one of the most common reason for the death of
both men and women globally. However, in the case of cardiovascular disease is less prevalent
in women than that of the men. Congestive heart failure in women is said to be effective in the
older age as compare to the men (Wilkins et al., 2017). CHF is observed due to weakening of the
heart muscle along with stiffness. Due to increase ejection, the blood pressure increases and the
heart cannot pump the blood effectively which causes heart failure. In the case of women,
development of diastolic heart failure occurs with a more general ejection as compared to men
due to which rate of CHF is less in men than that of the men.
Symptoms of CHF observed in women includes, jaw, Neck, shoulder, abdominal
discomfort, upper back, Shortness of breathing, Pain in both arms, vomiting or nausea, sweating,
dizziness or Light headedness,, and unusual fatigue. Along with these, Edema, loss of appetite,
and cough is also observed (Webster et al., 2017).
To diagnose heart failure, different test were performed such as, blood test, chest X-Ray,
Electrocardiogram, Echocardiogram, Stress test, Cardiac computerized tomography scan,
Magnetic resonance imaging, Coronary angiogram and Myocardial biopsy. These test are
conducted for both men and women (Ussher et al., 2016).
