CE 2.2.1 Characteristics of the project
Construction of the Abu Baker Siddiq Road Phase 2 project was carried out in Riyadh,
Saudi Arabia. Abu Baker Siddiq Road Phase 2 has three intersections: Al-Thumama intersection,
King Salman intersection and Anas Bin Malek Intersection. The duration of the project was from
November of 2015 to present. This project was undertaken by Ferrovial Agroman Company.
This company is responsible for carrying out building, construction and industrial projects. This
project was about the overall construction of 20.1 km road. The Abu Baker Siddiq Road Phase 2
project about constructing a main bridge of 2 km; fly over bridge of 2.2 km, underpass of 1 km,
retaining wall length of 3.2 km and 200 manholes. The value of this project was USD 200
million. The client of this project was ADA.

project was to execute all the major project control strategies in the civil and construction

project were project schedule controlling and reporting of details to the management.
CE 2.2.3 My Area of work
I was the Site Civil Engineer of the construction of the Abu Baker Siddiq Road Phase 2
project from November of 2015 to present. I had to report to the Construction Manager. Being
the Site Civil Engineer, my area of work was to supervise all the activities of the project. My
area of work was the designing of the project or task plan with genuinely created assignment
schematics. I was mainly involved in the interpretation of the task specifications along with a
few isometric drawings. I had systematically controlled the challenge of resources as well as the
total value of the project. I had also designed several painting techniques for the project team. I

I had various core responsibilities in the Construction of the Abu Baker Siddiq Road
Phase 2 project. Being the Site Civil Engineer, my main responsibility was to assist the
Construction Manager in supervising all the site activities of the project. I was responsible for
carrying out analysis and making the break down for the activities and the items that was
required in the start of the actual and theoretical project for the purpose of comparing it with our
prices. I had undertaken the responsibility of preparing purchase orders, change orders and
subcontractors. My responsibility was to review the shop drawings and coordinate it with the
technical department for making the modification of the drawings and site. I was responsible for

preparing the weekly reports, weekly plans and schedules for carrying out the concrete work
along with other trades. I used to also prepare the weekly update for the planning department. I
used to check the current utilities and coordinate it with the client for shifting it if it was
necessary or required to complete the work. I was given the responsibility for making a plan for
the King Salman intersection for ensuring smooth traffic and coordinating with the traffic police.
I was also responsible for distributing the work in the team and dividing it to separate groups for
working in all trades. I had the responsibility of carrying out inspections of the civil and
structural works and activities in coordination with the consultant to get the approval of RFI of
the detailed activities that were supposed to be performed. I was responsible for reviewing the
project plans as well as specifications. I even had to review the material quantities that were
required for the project. I was responsible for supervising the Performed Filed Test like the
Borehole for the purpose of determining the type of soil and its bearing capacity. I was given the
responsibility to supervise the density of the field for back fill material wherever required. I also
had to carry out the slump tests and check the compressive strength of the field. I was
responsible for supervising the moisture content, plastic limit, liquid limit, specific gravity as
well as the absorption ability of the soil. I had to inspect the site on a daily basis to ensure full
compliance with the contract plans as well as specifications. I was responsible for auditing the
test reports submitted by laboratories to ensure that these reports are in accordance with the
project standards like ASTM, BS and ACI. I also used to coordinate with the subcontractor and
supplier and perform necessary tests like the integrity test for the piles.

CE 2.3 Distinctive Activity
CE 2.3.1 Engineering Knowledge and Skills applied in the project
I have utilized my civil engineering skills and knowledge for the construction of the Abu
Baker Siddiq Road Phase 2. I have applied my exemplary skill set and comprehensive
understanding of construction as well as other civil tasks for the successful completion of this
project. I have carried out the assessment of the design activities and supervision of the project

CE 2.3.3 Personal Workplace Activity
I was the Site Civil Engineer and was responsible for ensuring that the activities are
carried out according to the tender document. Each task had a different time frame. I had created
diagrams of the design construction for the various stages of the project. I provided accurate
record values. I also participated in the monetary selection and acquired excellent price quote
from the selected vendors.
CE 2.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions
2.3.4.1 Issues
While preparing the plan to backfill the area behind the retaining wall along Abu Baker it
was found out that the shop drawings related to the following was not ready. The required shop
drawings were:
Invert level of perforated pipes.
Gantry : layout, foundation fixation detail, steel reinforcement, embedded anchor
bolts if required
Landscape layout plan: side walk if required (level), detailed water proofing in
case of side walk
Lighting pole: layout, fixation details
Utilities drawings for service roads: drainage, irrigation, telecommunication, low
voltage, lighting poles layout (service road)

I had conducted a meeting with the Construction Manager for solving this issue. I had
also mailed the technical manager for having a meeting for solving this issue and follow our
planning schedule. The technical manager was cooperative and ordered the design engineer to
work on these issues. 80 % issues were solved and 20 % issues took more time due to
redesigning.

CE 2.4.1 Project overview
