SECTION 05-400 – TILING
1. GENERAL
1.1 Documents that are related
This section of the work will be studied with the reference to the Design Drawings and
other sections that are related of the highlighted attributes
1.2 Outline of the work
A. This section of the work will be studied with the reference to the Design Drawings and
give specific requisites with the following:
1. Ceramic floor along with tiling of the wall
2. Tiling of the stones

B. It should be seen that the interfaces are well collaborated before the beginning of the
work.
1.3 Samples of the contract
A. The contract samples must be provided as the following:
1. Three tiles of different types with the designated texture and colour.
2. Three different types of tactile stud.
3. Samples of each type should be prepared with the dimensions 2000mm x 2000mm.
Junction detailed samples must be cropped out and included. Theses samples must be
preserved until the termination of the work.
4. Sample of Grout.
5. Joint material must be moved with a length of minimum 300mm.
6. Set out of the trial: A trial set out must be carried out on the horizontal surfaces of each of
the area.
7. Sample of the sealer.
8. Sample of Silicone.
1.4 Benchmark of quality
A. The following benchmarks of quality must be provided:
1. Firstly, the area of 9m square in each of the location must be taken into account.
1.5 Subcontractors
A. Proposed suppliers and the subcontractor’s names along with the contact details must
be submitted.

1.6 Witness Points
A. Sorting of the following with reference to Authorised Representative of DABS ( it is
essential to provide a minimum two working day notice):
1. Before tiling it is required to substrate immediately.
2. Set out of the trials and he initials.
3. Sealing and Joining process requires a prior controlling of the joints.
4. The tiling must be completed.
1.7 Warranty
A. A documeneted warranty is required to be submiteed to the Authorised Representative
of DABS before the practical completion for the following:
1. Floor and wall tiling: As specified by the manufacturer
2. Tiling of the stone: As specified by the manufacturer
B. Testing of the ceramic tiles to AS 4459 must be done.
Products:
2.1 General
A. The slip resistance of the flooring systems must be assured with the notion that are
usable by a wheelchair or walking frame according to the HB197/AS4586. Minimum ratings of
the wet pendulum that requires OC certification must include:
1. ‘V’ rating: wet ramps.
2. ‘W’ rating: external colonnade, pathway, nosings of the external stair, nosings of the
internal stair that are wet in nature.

3. ‘X’ rating: wet entry foyers, dry internal ramps, external retail of the tenancies, and
washroom facilities, nosings of the internal stair.
4. ‘Z’ rating: dry entry foyers, lobby must be lifted up above the external entry level.
2.2 Type TIB-01 Tile Bedding
A. Bedding type of the sand cement according to the Design Drawings.
1. Grout ratio of the sand/ cement: mix ratio of 3/1.
B. The base of fall/outlets must have a minimum thickness of 20 mm
C. The nominated design drawings must be served with the laying of the bedding.
D. Wherever, the depth of the screed becomes more than 50 mm, a galvanised mesh
reinforcement must be provided.
2.3 Type TIL-01 Porcelain Floor Tile
A. The standard must be according to AS ISO 13006.
B. The porcelain floor tiles must be nominated on the locations in accordance with the
design drawings.
C. Academy tiles/ 70932-30 must be referenced according to the manaufacturer.
1. The size must be 300 mm x 300mm x 8 mm
2. Matte finish.
3. Colour must be according to the details of the Internal Technical Reference Sheet.
4. Pattern must be of the brick bond.
D. Base or the background: Graded screed or the power floated concrete slab

E. Membrane that must be dam proof with type WPS-02 with reference to the section 04-
050 of the trade of waterproofing.
F. The bedding type must be TIB-01
G. Width of the joint must be R10
H. Maple grout or acceptance grout according to the matching colours
I. Slip resistance:
1. Ramp test with oil R10
2. Trims: A 12 mm stainless steel must be angle trims must be provided to all of theedges
that are exposed and 12 x 12 mm stainless steel mosaic corner angles to all the corners
that are exposed.
K. Coving must be of the type TIL-40
Type TIL-06 Ceramic Wall Tile
A. Standard must be according to AS ISO 13006
B. Vitrified ceramic walls to the different locations nominated on the design drawings.
C. Reference of the manufacturer must be with the Academy tiles 71564
1. Size must be 200 x 600 mm.
2. Gloss finish
3. The colour must be according to the details of the Internal Technical Reference Sheet.
4. A laying of the vertical brick bond will be laid. (offset of one third)
D. The background or the base must be according to the details of the drawings.

E. The tiles must have fixed according to the instructions of the manufacturer.
F. The width joint must be 3 mm
G. The grout must be of white epoxy and the colour of the tile must be matched.
H. 12 mm stainless steel angle trims to all the edges and 12 mm x 12 mm stainless steel
mosaic corners angles to all exposed corners must be provided.
EXECUTION
3.1 Generally fixing
A. According t the standards of the AS 3958.1.
B. The adhesive must be made compatible with the background or the base and prime
adhesive must be used if specified by the manufacturer.
C. Neat and accurate tiles must be cut out.
D. Fixation must be done with the provision of the adhesion over the whole background
or the base and the tile backs.
E. Ultimate appearance: It is necessary to make the adjustments before the bedding of the
material sets with an appearance that is regular to the tiles and the joints when viewed under
ultimate lighting conditions.
F. No unintended colour or the shade in the variations within the tiles for use in each area
or room with the allowed variegated tiles must be distributed evenly.
G. Without distributing the tiles, a clean large amount of the bedding material from the
joints and the faces of the tiles must be provided.

H. The cuts must be done at the periphery of the floor or around the openings and
obstacles must be trimmed according to the design drawings. The cuts must be made with the
help of a diamond tipped wet saw and the expected cut edges shall get an arris to match with the
tiles that are uncut. Proprietary tile cutting machines is permissible to be used if an allowance is
given from the Authorized Representative of DABS.
I. All of the tiles must be bedded in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer.
J. The tiling plumb and the square must be set out to the floor or the finish in the wall.
K. The tiles must be cleaned before the completion. The primary cleaning must be done
with reference to the instructions of the manufacturer.
L. The tiling must be polished with a dry cloth and protected when the joints are hard on
the completion.
3.10 Setting out
A. Finished to the given areas for the floor tiles needs to be set out on the given grid and
establishment of grid except for the indication of design draws.
B. The given joints should be true to line along with continuous without any kind of
steps.
C. Joints should be in the given wall and should be parallel to the given axes for the space
or any kind of specific feature.
D. The given cut lines should be minimum, should be as large as given possible in the
given location.

E. The position of the given joints are not generally specified and agree with the given
authorization. After that there is authorization of DABS.
3.11 Junction of other floor tends to finishes
A. Unless described or provided the stainless steel/ brass/ aluminum which comes up
with L-shaped. It is considered to be 3 mm thickness, at the given junction which helps in
understanding the floor, on each of the given sides and lastly top of the trim of the given height.
3.12 Joints
A. Proper kind of bed movement is needed for understanding the accordance of the
manufacture of the given instruction.
B. All the given walls trims should be taken into consideration which can have
proprietary kind of fit for the given purpose.
C. Margins: It is considered to be mirror variation in the given joint widths for the given
dimension which is needed to be cut, titles need to submit for the given proposal for Authorized
representation of DABS consideration.
3.13 Completion
A. Tiles of Spare: There are spare matching of given titles and given kind of accessories
for each of the given type (minimum 1% of the quantity which is installed) for the upcoming
purpose in the future. Storage of spare materials are mainly done of the given sites.
1. Location of storage: On site is mainly directed by the given Authorized representative
of DABS.

B. Proper clean title surface needs to be used for the given cleaning agent and lastly
polishing.
