INTRODUCTION
The report aims to identify the significance of construction materials in order to work for
a small building shop. Construction lead to focus on various activities such as planning for
materials, organising labours, construct an interiors plans and analyse the cost and deadlines of
the whole project. It involve use of technology, creating work tasks for individuals. Developing
construction project is quite challenging as it analyse the results before practical implementation
(Gurmu, 2019). Therefore, this report is going to provide various details in order to identify the
legislation and regulations on construction materials to avoid and health issues and carry out the
functions effectively. In addition to this, there is detailing of environmental profiling, life cycle
assessment, product declaration and various requirement \to fulfil environmental certification.
MAIN BODY
Task 1
State the regulations that construction materials can be stored safely on site.
Construction material have their own purpose and durability to achieve the site
objectives. It depends on the materials that how they need to be stored. This classification is
presented below:
Climatically Sensitive Material:
These types of material are needed to be stored in safe places. As change in climatic
condition will lead to destroy such kinds of resources. These needs to be stored in constructed
sheds so that, rain, storms would not destroy the material. These can be stored in both dry and
ventilated places. One of the most important regulation is to keep these material away from the
sun.
Cement:
This material needs to stored in a careful manner. It involves dry. Leakage proof and
moisture proof place for storage. Cements bags needs to away from any moisture or dampness.
Any exterior wall and stacks needs to have minimum space of 450m. The main regulation is to
kept in the cement in waterproofing places to avoid any harmfulness.
Timber:

This material needs to be stored in well surfaced beams. There could be well maintained
stacks which needs to be waterproof places. Therefore, all the materiel needs to be avoid to make
contact with water.
State regulations through construction materials can be moved safely onto construction site.
The construction materiel ends to move safely on the site and around the sites (Dakhli
and Lafhaj, 2018). This is necessary concept for the building projects as it is residential property
so that, material loading and unloading need not to be harm to people living in that area.
 The first regulation is that transportation and handling needs to be done in well manner.
There should be proper spaces, open windows and railing to load and unload material
safely.
 The plans needs to be used for handling are must be Hydraulic, excavators, cranes, trucks
and telescopic handlers.
 Handling material safety and loading limits should not be exceed.
 Storage areas needs to be kept organised and clean so that, there would not be any
damage or impact on the health of workers.
 The safety needs to include manual handling and separate the flammable substances.
These substances like petrol, paint thinners, diesel must be kept up to 50 litres in steel
chests and must be locked.
 The material should move the materials as per the regulations that no lodging facilities
will be conducted in the presence of any harmful material and the labours needs to lodge
the material one by one to avoid accidents.
State safety precautions are needed while cutting and working on specific construction materials
There are safety precautions that needs to be consider while working with other constructions
material like cutting, handling, loading timbers, lime, bamboo and others. These precautions are
described below:
Head safety: This safety precaution is required to protect head during working on the
site. As there might be risk of fall in objects, exposed wiring any injuries may impose.
Therefore, the managers need to have all the precautions before implementing practices on
construction site.
crane safety: In order to work with different material, there could be possible of
misshapen and malfunction of cranes as they are heavy in Weight which cause huge health injury

(Tomaszewska, 2020). While cutting or using other materials, these work should be performing
in different area where cranes could not enter.
Scaffolding and Fall Protection: This safety protection is must while indulging in with
cutting process or using other construction materiel. This is also a risk of fall of heavy objects.
The mangers need to aware workers about it and maintain weight limits of construction
materials.
Cutting, drilling and welding: The safety measures for cutting and drilling must be
maintained through keeping all the equipment right with the labour. Cutting must be done by
earing gloves and drilling machines need to use safely through being far from switches and
wires. According to OSHA, the dust while cutting, drilling and welding produces silica dust
which gives rise to many diseases related to lungs. This could be save through continues use of
water while cutting and drilling on the surface. This will protect the surface to flow the dust.

The risk assessments will be helpful to avoid health and safety problems while indulging with
cutting, handling and other construction work practices. These risk assessments are pre-
determined which might stop the future uncertainties.
In constructing building there will be industries which are related to falling of objectives
that require prompt hospitalization, manage to health and work abilities, low impact of
probability and consequences of injury, injury with incapacity of work (Koriom, and et.al.,
2019). All these risk assessments will be helpful to analyse the circumstances which may arise in
the health and safety of the construction site.
Discuss how effective current safety regulations help to prevent accidents and health problems
The health and safety precautions are helpful to prevent accidents and health problems
which may arise while working for a building construction. These precaution will save the
workers and site managers to come in contact with any hazardous activities, fall off and
construction risks during cutting and shaping. These effective precaution are mentioned below:
 use hat and helmet much often during working on sites.
 Wear gloves which will prevent from scratches and cut off.
 Safety vests are necessary to protect with fire and injuries at sensitive body parts.

 Face shields are necessary to prevent any cuts, eye defects and to perform work
effectively.
 Respiratory protection is must while working with fibre glasses, fire proofing, cutting or
cleaning to protect with any miscellaneous smells.

What is Environmental profiling
Environmental profiling is all about analysing how the material, building or production
used during construction have an extensive impact on the environment throughout its life. It
creates a sustainable project completion which is required to transparent measuring system.
There are various impact of the building materials which impact its long life. Therefore,
environmental profiling is important to analyse the reliable and accuracy of the products which
are used under construction of a building.
Give an example of environmental profiling
For a common building material, environmental profiling is to check whether the
cements, timbers, lime, cutting equipments, stones and sustainable and has long life which would
maintain the durability of building. In order to profile the resources, there is requirement of
material check within 1 month to check its quality and reliability. The environment life cycle
used for the established approach as per ISO14041. This shows the impact on products and
process used for the construction of building on the environment. This shows that, the
manufactures will easily identify how their products causes harm and take best decisions for the
same. The environmental issues include the waste produced which is move for recycling and re-
using.
What is Life cycle assessment?
This assessment helps to identify the impact of product or services used in construction on the
environment protection. It includes greenhouse gases, water pollution, land use, solar energy
systems an and other toxins. It asses the product and service quality during the whole life cycle.
The environmental profiles and product is used for creating life cycle assessments of the
construction of building. These both are important to ascertain the impact of the methods utilised
for sites which may have environmental impact through practices like raw material procuration,

manufacturing, distribution recycling and disposal. All these stages help in evaluating the
environmental impact of the products.
Give example of life cycle assessment
There are various stages of life cycle assessment which shows raw material execution extraction
such as cement, timbers, lime and other products (Kar and Jha, 2020). After that, it includes
manufacturing and processing of the products. For example, the LCA impact on the such area
like carbon footprints, human toxicity, smog and land usage. the inventory description will be
given in the product systems about material and energy flow.

There are various benefit of product declaration. It will give impact on choosing the
products sources. It will provide a confidence as it will gain insight about how these material are
beneficial for the environmental profiling (Kulkarni, Sharma, Hote and Civil, 2017). The site
managers will get the exact impact that the product cause on the environment as make decision
to use it in future of not. Also, it will be beneficial to enhance the sales and marketing
opportunities. As per ISO14025, it implies the principles and procedures for developing type III
environmental declaration programme. It shows how the company could use environmental
information in business to business communication.
Give example of product declaration
The example of product declaration is to use EPD methodology to analyse and measure
through previously done projects. The PCR is to analyse the whole product life cycle stages
whether it is independent or not. It will be done through with using software and tools to check
and declare the product as per its reliability. Product declaration must be under EPD standards
which could be gain through Thames Reinforcements Ltd. It is used as CEN standards which
serves as core PCR.
what is environmental certification
It is a kind of regulation that the construction institution needs to consider before going
into buy from those company who have environmental certification for using in making building
to maintain standards. It is related with the ISO14000 standards. These certificates must have by
companies who are involved in product manufacturing and selling.

produce a waste management plan
It is the first process to identify waste created in the building There is waste of waste water,
medial waste, resource wastes. This needs to be identify by waste streams that how it is created.
this include both hazardous and non hazardous wastes in which biological waste, electronic
waste and vegetative waste includes at construction (OGUNDIPE, OWOLABI and OGBEBOR,
2020). there is requirement of waste construction team which will lead to provide more of
recycling and reusing to protect environment in better manner. These activities are crucial and
there should be specific places for dispose off to not harm the society.
look at requirements of environmental friendly building
There are many requirement for making a building environmental friendly. There should
be use of solar systems, reusing of construction wastes, waterproofing construction, use of non-
toxic materials, integration of carbon and renewable technology, low carbon, good
environmental air quality servings (da Silva and et.al., 2021). All these requirements are
necessary to make it effective.
