1CONTEMPORARY HOTEL AND TOURISM ISSUES Topic: Contemporary issues in global tourism and its impact on the tourism industry. Introduction The travel and tourism industry is constantly proceeding and continuing with the number of clienteles cumulative with every single transitory day and this is an opportunity for the travel and tourism business to enhance their market. However, the changed scenario of global tourism restrict current opportunities in business and involve most of the contemporary factors that effect on the business (Theobald 2012). The three major issues in global tourism are lack of proper infrastructure and the quality of service level decrement, rising cost of fuel and the problem faced by the taxation and the last one is increased environmental awareness. These three situations or issues mitigate the enhancement of global tourism business. Contemporary issues Lack of proper infrastructure and degrading service level The proper infrastructure of the tourism industry is lagging behind, though there is some technological advancement has taken place. The range of physical frameworks like entry ports to transport modes in urban framework associated with travel and tourism business. The use of human resource and their deliverance in business is the key approach that companies want from their employees. Frontline staff, back office management and relationship with stakeholders is also important in that case (Lyons et al. 2012). The mid- level management in business is not satisfactory for the advancement in business, thus effectivemanagerialdecisionininfrastructuralchangeshelpsincaseoftravellers’ engagement. Service level degradation is another problem that the travel industry has faced in recent years and the expected service is delivered to travellers (Cohen and Cohen 2012). Customers interact with the appointed person of the company for any query, and thus
2CONTEMPORARY HOTEL AND TOURISM ISSUES understanding the customer and deliver a good explanation is needed from the appointed person's end, is essential. In most of the cases, things are not followed due to the background or the belongings of the employee. The customer has to deal with staff, the taxi operator, ticketing agent, hotel guide and other tour related people (Sharpley and Telfer 2015). The dealing must be smooth and the service level must be on top for the sustainable advancement of business. However, the adverse scenario is seen in most of the cases and that will be challenging for the travel industry as well. Rising cost of fuel and taxation The travel industry is highly reliant on the fuel cost. The increase in fuel price makes it difficult for the travel and tourism industry as they are facing severe difficulty o run the business in a profitable way. The fare also increase in such situation as extra price have to pay to form the travelling company end. Similarly, customers have to pay the same price increment, so in most of the cases, they curtailed their trip (Connell 2013). The cost will also adjust the places planned for the trip and the even the member of the trip. This is not a suitable advertisement for the travelling business and the opportunity for market growth is mitigated through that process (Sharpley and Telfer 2015). The overall experience is not fulfilled for customers and that is the reason dishearten situation may happen for customers. Travel and tourism area highly-taxed sector and transaction of a good amount of tax are placed in this section. The high rated tax decrease the chances of organisational advancement and the same situation persist in the travel and tourism industry (Hannam, Butler and Paris 2014). There are some specific taxes that the company needs to cover for the sustainability of the business. Service tax, luxury tax, transportation tax, aviation tax all these taxes have to pay by the company and that accumulate in a huge amount for the company. This is considered as the challenging issue for the travel and tourism industry.
3CONTEMPORARY HOTEL AND TOURISM ISSUES Increased environmental awareness Environmental awareness is one of the major challenges in travel and tourism business. The preservation of nature and developed safety system mitigate the free-flow travellingexperience.Theprotectionofenvironmentresourcesstoppedthetravelling business to enter in that section and people are not able to live those moments. Green tourism itself engaged with the protection policy of the environment. The responsibility of decreasing the level of pollution and improve the greenery is a good step from the respective government (Salazar 2012). However, the problem persists in the different section. Some places are good fortravellingandsigh-seeing,butastravellers'presencemaketheplacedirtyand environmental protocols are broken by that process, this government or any higher authority close the place, this impacted a huge shortcoming for the organisation, as the travel organisation will not able showcase the place anymore and the people will be disheartening again (Sharpley and Telfer 2015). Safe natural resources are important for the sustainability of the environment but the process of tourism is somehow affected by that process and entire mannerism of business handling is under threat. All event manager has their accountability to donate for the security and fortification of conservational resources. The waste is required to be deserted correctly. The level of contamination and pollution is also snowballing quickly owing to the great level of travel and tourism area (Duncan, Scott and Baum 2013). The process of environmental sustainability is important in that case and that encourage green tourism but not the entire travel facility. The environment protection is important as well as the rapid increase in travel opportunity so one of the sides needs to be covered up through this process(Sharpley and Telfer 2015). The dissimilar approach of analysing the environment with the normal travelling process and even the technological advancement in travelling is not enough for protecting the issue of tourism.
