Introduction
Social issues are the problem or challenges that are affecting many individuals in
society in a negative way (Adelman, Rosenberg & Hobart, 2016). It is arising due to the
factors that are operating beyond an individual’s control such as poverty, domestic violence,
refugee resettlement, belief systems, etc. In this assignment selected articles of contemporary
social issues are poverty, refugee resettlement and domestic violence. Poverty is defining as
shortage of resources for living life. It includes the shortage of basic resources like nutrition,
clean water, roof over head, education and health care facilities. A refugee resettlement is the
displaced person who are being forced to leave their own places due to terrorism or other
issues. Domestic violence defines as the abusive activities which are conducting by one
person to other. Generally, women and children become the victim of domestic violence. In
this assignment Pedagogies, strategies and resources will be identified about each of these
articles for early childhood education purpose. Specifically, this study will research about the
3-5 years old children.

Poverty
Overview of the article:
Gorski, P. C. (2013). Building a pedagogy of engagement for students in poverty. Phi Delta
Kappan, 95(1), 48-52.
The author has concluded this study on the children of age group of 3-5 years old
children. Author has defined in this article that school which have less resources are not able
to adopt the technological changes as quickly as they are happening in the world. Even for
the growth of the children, it is necessary to adopt the technological changes in schools and at
home also. However, due to adverse family condition many poor families cannot afford these
technologies (Gorski, 2013). Even poor families have to reduce access to a bunch of other
essential resources like health care facilities, recreational opportunities and even clean air for
fulfilling basic needs like water, food, clothes and shelter. The author described in the article
that David Berliner said that only finite way to achieve educational equity is eliminating
poverty itself. However, educational schools cannot eliminate poverty on their own. The
author is further describing that school can address poverty through teaching social justice,
organizing equal academic opportunities and the school can also supply snacks, clothes and
other necessities (Britto, et. al., 2017).
Classroom strategies:
 Keeping high expectations:
When students who are living in poverty, empathy is significant or showing
compassion is extremely important. However, it can arise to injustice also when the
