Critical appraisal:
Title and Abstract: The title is well reflective of the main phenomenon of exploring
the Neuman Theory. The title also reflects the study’s exploration of population groups
working within the intensive care unit of healthcare organizations (Kozier et al., 2017;
Khatiban et al., 2016). Such observations demonstrate congruence with the research
question and make it easy for the reader to understand the research contents (Yardley,
2017). The abstract of the study by Khatiban et al., (2016) provides a more detailed and
specific information of the key population groups covered as well as provides a concise
yet elaborate summary of the research issue, the article screening methods used as well
as the impact of the theory on each group of patients, families and nurses within the
intensive care unit (Kozier et al., 2017; Khatiban et al., 2016) Such a detailed abstract
enables readers to understand the context and issues explored by the study before
proceeding into a detailed reading (Yardley, 2017).

the impact of practical nursing theory can be easily identified and is clearly stated in the
introduction in the study by Khatiban et al., (2016). The problem is significant for
nursing research since it focusses upon the stressful nature of the nursing profession as

from evidence based researches which have studies the subjective experiences both
patients, families and nurses in the intensive care unit (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber,
