Introduction
Bandaranaike International Airport is the main international airport in Sri Lanka, and it handles
10.79 million passengers annually.
Seoul Incheon International Airport is the largest airport in South Korea, and it is considered as
one of the cleanest and busiest airports in the world. It handles about 70 million passengers
annually.
1.1 Geographical location

The Bandaranaike International Airport is in Katunayake area which in Negombo suburb.

Incheon Airport
Incheon International Airport is in an artificially created piece of land which is 17 miles west
from Seoul city center. This land has built between Yeong Jong and Yongyu Islands.

1.2 Available Runways
BIA
Currently Bandaranaike International Airport has a single runway with an asphalt surface. Its
take-off and landing distances are 3,441 m and 3,350 m, respectively. In future developments it
has planned to have a second runway with a taxiway in phase II project. It will be able to
accommodate A380.

1.3 Other Facilities available in the Airports
1.3.1 Terminals
BIA
BIA has three passenger terminals and a cargo terminal.
Terminal 1 - This is the oldest and the largest terminal which handles all international flights
until the opening of Terminal 2. This has 12 boarding gates, where departure and arrival areas
are separated horizontally.
Terminal 2 - This terminal is expected to be put into operations in 2022 and then it will the new
international terminal. It is planned to have 8 boarding gates with vertically separated arrival and
departure areas. In the phase II development project, it has planned to build 14 passenger
boarding bridges including two bridges for A380.
Terminal 3 – This is the domestic terminal which handles all inbound and outbound domestic
flights. Departure and arrival areas are horizontally separated.
Cargo Terminal - Handles all cargo flights and has horizontally separated departure and arrival
areas.
Incheon Airport
Incheon airport has two main passenger terminals and 3 cargo terminals.
Terminal 1 – This consists of 44 boarding gates, 120 arrival passport inspection counters, 50
customs inspection ports, over 252 check-in counters, 120 departure passport inspection counters
and an automatic check-in counter.
Concourse A/Satellite Terminal – Terminal 1 has this passenger concourse which consists of
30 boarding gates and 6 airport lounges.
Terminal 2 – This is a five-story terminal which built in 2018 with modern facilities and
technologies. This consists of 37 gates, self-check-in and smart bag-drop machines and robots to
help and guide passengers.
3 Cargo Terminals – Have automated systems for cargo transfer, workstations, cargo handling
equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and temperature-controlled rooms.

After phase IV developments there will be altogether 128 gates, 4 concourses.
