emotional intelligence, team and group work and the use of intercultural communication. The
Organisational development of modern age requires different business strategies like reliability,
sustainability, and affordability.
The choice of company is Woolworth group, an Australian company operating in most areas in
New Zealand and Australia with more than 3000 stores. Woolworth limited is seeking to
introduce sudden cardiac arrest first-aid across its supermarkets in almost 500 stores countrywide
in Australia. The first-aid kit Automated External Defibrillators (AED) is intended to secure the

communicated to all stakeholders of the company consisting of suppliers, employees,
shareholders, the government, and customers through the selected modes of communication. The

Woolworth, through a partnership with the first work health and safety product provider in
Australia, wish to install defibrillators on a mass scale in its stores across Australia. The strategy
to install defibrillators first-aid kit is aimed to improve customer relations in the company. Many
people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest. Therefore, a move to secure the stores from such
emergency issues will also improve the stakeholder's confidence on the management of the
company. The strategy is an initiative which the government being concern with the health of its
citizen will encourage its support towards the realization of this goal. Equipped stores with AED
is seen to increase the traffic of shoppers, which increase revenue generation to the company.
Though the company installation of defibrillators intention is merely to address significant
concerns of heart failure due to lack of first-aid emergency kit, the strategy in itself is seen to
increase the market share of the company. Over the past decades, the company has been so keen
on providing quality and healthy fresh farm products to its customers. Therefore, this move will
act as a supplement to address the health issues of the customers.
REFLECTION:
Corporate business communication course has guided me in understanding the different forms of
business communications channels that are available for organizations. Moreover, the criteria of
choice of the different methods of media outreach to the target audience are also crucial in
addressing their expectations. While writing the press release, I realized the need for
communicating companies’ strategies to the stakeholders. I understood that once stakeholders
understand the good intentions of the company affiliated to them to safeguard their interest, their
expectations are exceeded.
The press release and the media presentation by Woolworth were intended to pass the new
information on the installation of AEDs across all its retail stores in Australia in order to
safeguard their customers and other stakeholders against sudden cardiac arrest during shopping. I
have been in a position to understand the critical role of stakeholders in the overall performance
of the firm. Since the firm does not exist in a vacuum, it is equally important to draw their
attention to many social, health, and economic problems affecting them. Customers are crucial to
the existence of Woolworth. Therefore, their safety is essential to the management of the firm.
The experience of writing the press release and the media presentation has improved my
communication skills and understanding the importance of communicating the firm’s strategies
to the relevant stakeholders.
The media presentation, on the other hand, has improved my public speaking and presentation
skills. I can speak to a vast multitude without stage fright and convince the audience on the

Team and group work
A team is a group of individuals with a common purpose to achieve a goal. Being involved in a
team is advantageous as people get to learn and interact with the diverse composition of the team
regarding their cultural backgrounds, personalities, and characters. Today’s complex working
environment requires extensive skills, knowledge, and expertise, which is often achieved through
team and group work.
Working in a group involves a process of bonding and developing common values and morals
that reduces any chances of conflicts. When forming a team, a leader is necessary to shape the
activities and manage the responses from the various team members. Working as a group, there
are specific vital points which must be taken care for like forming a team, unity among each
other, sharing an opinion, and no conflict of interest. Therefore, a good leader in a team must
learn how to transform the weakness of the team members into strength.
The process of team management and workgroups is well illustrated in project management. In
this case, members come together to achieve a specific goal. The process of team formation is
rather interesting. These stages include forming, storming, performing, and adjourning. During
the first stage, the group members are unaware of the other team members values, beliefs, and
norms. They interact and communicate with each other. During the storming stage, the members
of the team get to understand that the group members are diverse in all aspects of life. They
disagree on the different norms portrayed by the members as well as on the perception issues.
After this stage, the members can now form. They get to understand and appreciate the diversity
among themselves and further convert their differences into norms for the group. They perform
many tasks without conflicts and achieve the goals of the group. This stage is also believed to
more crucial if the members fail to adequately norm. At the last stage of the group, formation is
the adjourning stage where the members of the group have officially completed the goals of the
group. It is the most emotional moment in the group formation stages as the members detach
themselves from the cherished values, attitudes, and beliefs that they shared among themselves.
Therefore, team and group work is vital in any organization to understand the dynamics of the
groups and map a way of solving their problems.

Negotiation and Conflict Management
Negotiation is a process of developing an efficient communications strategy in resolving the
conflict between parties. As an integral part of conflict resolution, negotiation involves a
negotiator who tries to reach a conclusion that favors both parties. The negotiation skills and
style vary among the people this, therefore, result in different interpersonal skills of the
negotiator These negotiations are based of two types one is position based, and the other one is
interest based. Conflict in organizations and individuals arises majorly due to change and
personal differences. Negotiation being integral in collaborative and management of an entity,
management of companies often encourage the use of negotiation tools to solve conflicts arising
at the workplace. Massive amount of revenue could be lost in organizations due to unresolved
conflicts.
Moreover, conflict can either be internal or external. External conflict arises due to poor policies
in the relation between the firm with the outside environment. Corporate issues such as
environmental pollution, social problems, poor drainage, poor road, and unemployment of the
locals could lead to a possible conflict between the corporate and the outside stakeholders.
Therefore, the management of corporate companies must seek possible solutions to such
problems before it is too much to bear(Doorley and Garcia, 2015).
To overcome conflicts in today’s world requires essential skills due to the turbulent working
environment. The voluminous work duties and daily work changing space increase the chances
of conflicts in organizations. Failure to combat the menace of conflicts among people leads to
adverse effects such as low productivity, poor relationships and management, and low morale of
employees. Apart from the various conflict resolution tools, management should develop
interpersonal skills for conflict resolution. If an organization wish to grow, the focus on conflict
resolution arising from the differences in the culture, attitudes, values, and beliefs should be
centered on change management.
