Control Systems 2
Given the following data
Height of the tank = 8m
Limit of the water =5 m
Flow rate of water varying from 150 to 250 litres per minute
Pump delivery = 250 litres per minute with 350 kPa of head
Loss head =180 kPa
Part a
A suitable device for measuring the height of water holding tank would be employing a method
known as capacitance Transmitter

Control Systems 3
The fluid has a constant dielectric and if the level of fluid changes then capacitance will also
change and the capacitance changes on the variation of the height and this is read by Capacitance
Bridge which on calibrating gives the required height (Ranade, 2014). The auxiliary

equipment which can be employed here is a contactor relay allows the switching ON and OFF
which allows the opening and closing of the valve.
Part b
Control valve for controlling fluid level in the tank cable (Floating valve – Automatic water level
control valve). It is replaced for the traditional float which can be applied to a system of the high
water tank (Friedman, 2014). Float valve or float switch is the best selection since this is
capable of doing the automatic switching which enables the operating of the valve.
