This article discusses a qualitative study on the management of exacerbations in COPD patients. The researchers aimed at studying the ways through which the patients can identify and self-manage exacerbations even without the support of the healthcare providers. The study was conducted using a qualitative research method, and data was collected through in-depth interviews. The major finding of this research was that the patients were able to identify the occurrence of exacerbation by relying on the visible and invisible symptoms.

This qualitative study explores how COPD patients identify exacerbations and the management mechanisms employed at home. The study reveals that COPD patients identify exacerbations based on visible and invisible symptoms and employ self-management techniques. The findings highlight that the patients only accessed healthcare assistance in the event that the self-management techniques did not result in improvement in their conditions.

This article analysis focuses on the study of ways through which chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients manage exacerbations at home to reduce their rate of readmission. The study used grounded theory approach to collect data through interviewing respondents with the experience of the phenomenon until saturation is reached. The findings indicated that managing of exacerbations by patients reduces the rate of admission of COPD patients.
