INTRODUCTION
Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by virus and newly discovered people as it
spreads through one another. This present reflective essay is going to discuss all detailed
information about Covid-19 which is current hot topic and disease, spreading rapidly. It will
discuss symptoms, causes, precautions, current cases, people who are more exposed and likely to
affected and those who can be recovered at early stage. Further, it will also discuss current
treatments as how doctors are treating patients with Covid-19, Social isolation is considered the
best ways of preventing against this. Lastly, it will show importance of codes of ethics followed
by social healthcare providers for eliminating discrimination.
MAIN BODY
Gibbs reflective model
Description: In the context of Coronavirus or Covid 19 it can be said that it is an
infectious disease caused by a virus. In infectious disease which is being caused by viruses that
cannot be recovered by antibiotics. It is one of the main hot topic and disease nowadays which is
spreading to the great extent and those people who infected with Covid-19 virus experience mild
to moderate respiratory illness and sometimes recover without even specific treatment. From TV
programme I also got to know that those people who have strong immune system are more Ilkley
to recover from this and those people who are already suffering from any other chronic disease,
cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease like cancer, diabetes and others are less likely to
recover and if that people got infected then it leads death. I also want to describe some other
basic information about Covid-19 or coronavirus as older people, children, pregnant women are
also likely to affect the most and also take time in recovering as compare to those who are not
suffering from any disease and are younger, having strong immune system (Dressler and et.al.,
2018).
I also searched about it as what are some symptoms, causes and precautions and from
different articles I found that the best and effective way of preventing as well as slow down
transmission against Covid-19 virus is to become well-informed about it and keep updating own
self. Other effective preventive ways of Covid-19 include: sensitizing hands, washing hands
regular basis, covering cough from mask, keeping social distancing, when it is not possible to
maintain physical distancing then wearing mask while working in office and going outside etc. It

is also warned on TV channels and news that immediately go to nearby hospital and taking
medical attention if we feel fever, cough and problems in breathing. So, it was all basic
information which I gained via TV programmes, advertisement and articles.
Feelings: I want to share my feelings about Covid-19 virus as how it is spreading,
chances of spreading in people, precautions and others from my personal experience. In this
context I can say that Coronavirus infectious disease is harmful and dangerous for those who do
not take care of themselves and if they are suffering from any other chronic disease and have
weak immune system as well. Otherwise, people with strong immune and those who are taking
care of themselves in an effective manner, taking all precautions like wearing mask, keeping
distance, washing hands often can be recovered if they got infected. From my personal
experience in which one of my close friends, 25 year of age got infected and at initial stage he
started to take care of himself and as soon as he felt fever he went nearby hospital for treatment
with proper precaution. After positive result he was being isolated for around 14 days as it is
estimated days in which people can be recovered. After 14 days he was again diagnosed and
found negative but still he takes cared of himself by keeping social distancing and following all
precautions, guidelines prescribed by doctor (Tawanwongsri and Phenwan, 2019). He is now
absolutely fine. So, I can say that in the context of this disease that precaution is better than cure
and safety is all in our hand.
I also gathered some detailed information from my friend and found that this virus
disease spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or also discharge from nose when infected
people sneeze or cough. MY friend also told me that there is no specific vaccines of it as people
are only being isolated by suggesting of drinking plenty of fluids, having nutritional food, living
in clean, hygienic room and thinking positive by meditation are some treatment given to patients
with this disease.
Evaluation
For more information I researcher about it and found several articles where detailed
information about Covid-19 provided. So, in this context I want to evaluate that some authors
believe that this disease is not dangerous or lethal and some authors said that it is lethal and very
dangerous disease. But I found that it is dangerous for some people who do not follow
guidelines, take precautions, having weak immune, suffering from chronic disease and is not
lethal for those who are fit and active and are young. From one article I found that WHO has

declared this Covid-19 a global pandemic and it is first such designation since declaring H1N1
influenza, a pandemic in 2009. It was initially reported to the WHO on December 30, 2019 and
in one month it declared it as a global health emergency.
No drugs have been approved by the FDA for treatment and specific prevention of
Covid-19. I also found from articles that WHO welcomes initial clinical trial results from the UK
which shows dexamethasone as it can be lifesaving for all who are suffering and critically ill
with this global pandemic and it was the first treatment which is shown to reduce mortality rate
in patients who either require oxygen or ventilator support (COVID-19 WHO, 2020). In addition,
in the context of dexamethasone I also gathered informations that it is a steroid which has been
used since 1960s in order to decrease range of conditions such as certain cancer and
inflammatory disorders. For preventing people against this and spreading of this, government of
some cities or countries Curfew or lock down and it was one of the best decision because it
helped in spreading this infectious disease. By not stepping out of the house except for buying
essential materials is known as lock-down. I can also say that it has affected economy of
countries to the great extent because people are not investing money in property and other basic
purchasing of materials. Due to this pandemic, many people lost their jobs or it increased
unemployment rate but there are several companies who tried to continue their work from home
in order to provide pay to workers and also contribute in economy. I also got to know that
government of the UK has also contributed and still contributing in preventing people and also
improving economy by investing in long term sustainable clean energy investment.
Analysis
I can say that I learned and gathered so many informations from articles and even several
TV advertisement are also related to Covid-19 ans their main aim is to protect people and
making them aware about this problem and how they can protect themselves. They have given
information and ways of prevention. I can say that rather, all prescribed solutions and ways of
prevention, people need to focus on taking nutritional diet, refraining from smoking because it
weakens their lungs and can also weaken their immune. For fighting against this global
pandemic we all need to focus on keeping ourselves healthy and fit.
From other articles first confirmed case in the UK or case of respiratory infection because
of Covid-19 was recorded on 31 January, 2020 (Coronavirus Disease 2019: A Guide for UK,
2020). Cases of coronavirus increasing rapidly and unfortunately UK moved a delay phase of

responding to this disease and patients. After taking guidelines from NHS, health protection
Scotland and public health England, it showed effective response in treating patients and
recovering them at initial stage by testing out suspected people (World Health Organization,
2020). Those people found temperature more than 37.8°C, respiratory symptoms, cough, nasal
discharge are suspected of Covid-19 and given effective treatment if found positive. I also found
that people are being advised that not to attain General physician surgery and community
pharmacy if they feel cough and flu like illness and also suggested promoting self isolation at-
least 7 days at home. So, overall I can say that TV programmes and articles have all information
about Covid-19 and people have also being aware now, and they are wearing mask and taking all
precautions suggested by NHS and WHO.
Conclusion
So, from the above, I can conclude the current situation of Covid-19 that there are many
people who are still affected and WHO is supporting to institutes in developing appropriate
vaccine of it as without vaccine it is not possible to eliminate this disease completely. By taking
care of ourselves and following all guidelines and precautions people can protect themselves
against this infectious disease but can not eliminate it. I also discussed all symptoms which I got
to know from TV programmes and articles as it can help people in making aware and also
maintaining social distancing. Approximate 36,000 deaths have been recorded in the UK due to
Coronavirus (Petrosillo and et.al., 2020). So, there is requirement for people to maintain social
distancing and do not step out from home if not essential because now it is the only way of
preventing ourselves against this dangerous disease.
Action plan
One of the main aim is to prevent people against Covid-19 and improve their health. By
identifying all appropriate ways and guidelines like cleaning hands often, wearing mask,
maintaining safe distancing, avoiding going to public place, covering nose while sneezing and
cough, staying home and taking medical attention if required are some ways to accomplish goal.
Rather, this I can also say that without appropriate and specific vaccine of this, it cannot be
treated in an effective and complete manner. It is also important for people to have nutritional
food in order to make immune system strong as by doing so they can protect themselves against
it and death as well.

Ethical codes of conduct
For more improving health of people with Covid-19 I believe that it is important for
healthcare support workers to follow set standard or codes of ethics in order to make patients feel
valued. Because I found from TV programmes that there are many patients and people with
Covid-19 who were being treated in an ineffective manner and discriminated. This treatment
with them lowered their morale and made them de-motivated because it is an infectious disease
and people have fear of getting infected by coming into contact of already infected people. So, I
can suggest and say that all workers should understand that by following codes of ethics and
taking precautions they can provide treatments in an effective manner. Codes of ethics allow all
workers to behave in an ethical and effective manner with patients. Codes of ethics related to
social workers also make sure that:
People are following all guidelines and meeting its standards.
Checking out that workers can fulfil requirements of their roles and also do the right
things at all times.
Identify all those areas for continuing professional development.
So, Overall I can say that it allows them in knowing the difference between the right act and the
wrong act and improving health of patients.
CONCLUSION
From the above study it has been summarized that global pandemic, Covid-19 is a
dangerous infectious disease which is spreading rapidly because there is no specific vaccine of it.
By following guidelines given by WHO and all other precautions, people are preventing
themselves against this disease. It has also discussed all symptoms, causes and extent of
spreading this disease as which people are more likely to get affected, mortality rate, recovery
rate and others. People have been tested daily in order to know if they are infected or not and by
testing daily people are being prevented by providing treatment at initial stage.
