Introduction
The pandemic has impacted negatively on overall performance & management of Tourism
companies. It is one of the impacted industry by Covid-19 & is affecting on the economy and
services as well. Almost, Tourism organisations has closed as they are not capable enough to
operate their functions in COVID-19 which further leads high loss to the economy and livelihood
of people (Higgins-Desbiolles, 2020). In the present study, TUI is taken into consideration. It is a
British travel leisure group which was established in year 2007 and headquartered in UK. The
objective of the present study is to analyse the influence of COVID-19 on management &
performance of Tourism.
Research aim:
"To identify the impact of COVID-19 on performance and management of tourism". A
study on TUI
Research objectives:
To analyse the challenges or issues faced by TUI due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
To determine the impact of COVID-19 on the performance and management of TUI.
To examine the strategies adopted by TUI to deal with the challenges of COVID-19 and
ensure future sustainability.
Research problem
COVID-19 has impacted on the management and tourism businesses globally and is one of
the industry that has faced high restrictions worldwide. Along with this, there are many
challenges faced by Tourism organisations that is decline business travels, decline in
performance, shut down of businesses, lockdowns and many more (Lu and et. al., 2021). This
has impacted adversely on the productivity and performance of Tourism. In context to the
present investigation, it will help respective company to identify the impact of Covid-19 on
business as well as management of tourism. Along with this, it aid in analysing and developing

the strategies in dealing with situation that further assist in ensuring future sustainability of future
companies.
Research Questions:
What are the challenges or issues faced by TUI due to the COVID-19 pandemic?
What is the impact of COVID-19 on the performance and management of TUI?
What are the strategies adopted by TUI to deal with the challenges of COVID-19 and
ensure future sustainability?
Chapter 2
Research methodology
It is one of the important part of an investigation which allow researcher to gain insight
regarding methods and techniques used by research worker in order to conduct study. In context
to the present investigation, the methods used is given below:
Research choice: It is the procedure of collecting and evaluating data on the particular
topic. Along with this, quantitative and qualitative are two main types of research choice and
according to the present study, qualitative is appropriate as well as valuable. The reason to select
this it assist research worker to collect information about the issue in a timely and appropriate
manner.
Research philosophy: Another important part of methodology is research philosophy which
consist of set of assumptions and beliefs that help research worker to collect and interpret data in
an effective manner (Mensah and Boakye, 2021). The main types of research philosophies are
interpretivism as well as positivism. As per the study, interpretivism as a philosophy is valuable
as it help in collecting and also evaluating secondary data. Furthermore, it helps researcher to
achieve valid and appropriate outcomes.
Data collection: It introduces as the procedure of collecting both primary as well as
secondary sources of collecting data. In addition to this, the study is based on secondary
information that is collected through books, Journals, articles and so on. One of the main reason
to choose secondary data collection is it help in gaining wide range of data on specific topic from
various authors that further develops reliable and valid conclusion.

Data analysis: It is referred as the procedure which is used by research worker in order to
collect data and is include different types that is frequency distribution, thematic analysis and
many more. In context to present investigation, it is totally conducted on secondary information
& in order to analyse such information, frequency distribution analysis will be used (Nazneen,
Hong and Ud Din, 2020). The main objective to choose this is it help in identifying patterns that

According to Adam (2020), there are many issues faced by tourism organisation that impact
negatively on their overall performance. One of the major issues is travel restrictions because of
which companies are not able to operate (Challenges in Tourism management, 2020). In addition
to this, the other issues are lockdowns, safety and security, government regulations and so on. It
is vital for companies to deal with all the issues in order to ensure sustainability.
Impact of COVID-19 on the performance and management of TUI
According to Raqfeen , (2021) it is analysed that there is adverse impact performance and
management of Covid-19 on tourism organisations. The overall demand of tourism is decline
because of high government restrictions and lockdowns. It is analysed that people did not prefer
to travel as it is associated with high risk of health (Impact of Covid-19 on tourism, 2021). On the

other side, the employment rate within the tourism sector has declined that impact on the
livelihood of people and economy as well. Moreover, tourism organisations are not capable to
operate their functions and its operations as they cannot earn money. Thus, it is analysed that
there is adverse influence of Covid-19 on the overall performance and productivity of tourism
companies.
Strategies adopted by TUI to deal with the challenges of COVID-19 and ensure future
sustainability
As per the viewpoint of Harald, (2021) it has been analysed that the companies who are related
to the travel and tourism develop various strategies for the objective to deal with the various
issues related to pandemic. There are various strategies which helps the companies to retain
them for a long time. In addition to this, there are various strategies which are adopted that
involves price discounting, digital communication and promoting values etc(Productive role
of innovation in a large tourism organisation, 2021).

Interpretation: From the above figure, it can be analysed that the TUI Group had faced a lot of
issues and challenges that basically resulted in the decrease and decline in GDP with a fall
from 10.4% to 5.5%. Another challenge faced by the TUI Group was decline in the
employment rate in the travel and tourism based companies and it can be also analysed that
there has been a major decline in the job rates of the organisation. Another issue was
related to deterioration of the international and domestic spending sources. In the year
2019, the global spending was -69.4% and household spending was -45%.

Interpretation: By analysing the above figure, it has been determined and interpreted that the
overall turnover of the tourism sector is basically associated with the management of various
business activities. The major factors are basically related to the trading industry. The turnover
resulted in falling down to 26.06%.

strategies which are basically based on the digital media. These strategies are basically

rather than spending too much.

influence on the pandemic on the productivity of the organisation which is basically due to
decline in the efficiency. The major factors basically involves the different hygiene and safety,
management of risk and service delivery. All these factors are basically related to the influence
on the control and performance of the organisation.

future sustainability
From the above literature review, it has been interpreted that the organisation is focusing
on adopting new strategies which are basically related to the platforms of digital media as these
platforms helps in providing growth in the marketplace and moreover these designs are
connected with the platforms of the digital media and other sources which are related to hygeine
and safety factors.

Conclusion
From the above discussion, it has been analysed that the performances as well as businesses
of Tourism sector has declined due to Covid-19. This has affected directly on the livelihood,
living standard and economy as well. It is determined that there are different strategies adopted
by tourism organisations in order to deal with issues such as adoption of digital techniques, re-
balance marketing spending, follow rules, promoting values and many more. Moreover, it is
determined that using of secondary data collection methods help researcher to gain in-depth
knowledge about topic that leads to development of reliable and valid conclusion.
