INTRODUCTION
Tourism industry is very vast in nature. It is also recognised as the travel industry in
which the idea of people moving or travelling to other locations, either locally, nationally or
internationally. It can be done for leisure, social and corporate objectives. Moreover, it is nearly
connected to the hospitality sector, hotel sector, and transport sector (Seleiman and et.al., 2020).
The main agenda behind tourism companies is to make tourists happy, equipped and occupied
with the things they require during their time in which the are far away from their home. The
essay is based upon the discussion on the impacts of Covid-19 on the tourism industry.
MAIN BODY
Coronavirus is one the viruses that can cause infection in the nose, sinuses and upper
throat. Most of them are not that harmful as they are exist with little symptoms and can be
diagnosed symptomatically, but somehow it resulted the death of immense number of people
throughout the world, this is because of its terrible demonstration causing respiratory failure. It
has had a withering impact on the demographics resulting in more than 5.3 million deaths in the
entire world. Deficiency of crisis treatments and shortage of drugs of life saving has encouraged
the repurposing of current therapeutics and emergence of vaccines with the combined efforts of
industrial experts and scientists in the short span. As of 2021, there have been around 266000000
inveterate cases of coronavirus, which covers approximately 5300000 deaths (Coronavirus
Disease (COVID-19), 2021).
The present situation of Covid-19 pandemic is leading to fundamental adjustments in
terms of economic behaviour of people which will inescapably affect the tourism industry and
activities related to it. It is affected in tourism host nations and international as well. Immediate
control measures such as avoiding physical contact, necessary restrictions on travel, social
distancing and many more, have vanished the interest of tourists in travelling at other places.
Covid-19 pandemic has caused the immediate affects across the entire orbit of social and
economic activities (Santacroce, Bottalico and Charitos, 2020). Before this pandemic happening
in the world, travel and tourism had become one of the most essential sectors in the economies of
world, accounting for ten percent of world GDP and more than 320 million jobs worldwide.
The pandemic has resulted the tourism sector due to the resulting travelling restrictions
and drop-off in the demand among tourists. This industry has been severely affected by the

spread of virus as different countries have announced travel restrictions in an endeavour to
incorporate its spread. The Covid-19 pandemic has increase a dramatic loss of life and creates an
unprecedented challenge to public health, world of work, food systems as well as tourism
industry. Millions of organisations face an empirical threat. It is observed that Covid-19 delivers
a significant impact on the tourism industry due to which many companies faces losses.
Lockdown resulting the shut down of businesses and creates unemployment in the world. There
are companies which faced losses due to lockdown such as EasyJet, British airways and many
more. Travellers refuses to traveller as they have a fear of get infected if they move from one
place to another (Mukarram, 2020). There are many other challenges that resulted as the
pandemic has put a hitch to the lives of people in the whole world. They are not able to go and
move to places where they want to go as many travel services had been stopped due to the
Covid-19 situation. The pandemic crises badly affects the lives of people to not go out for travel
and roaming and there are nill opportunities seen in the tourism industry. Therefore, this has
resulted a major implications in the operations and functioning of the travel industry. So, for that
cause there is loss of employment (Krarti and Aldubyan, 2021). Many people lost their work and
jobs due to the covid-19 pandemic as there is no more use of workers due to lack of tourists. It is
found that people have no job to do and not so much profitability has been raised in the travel
agencies which is the main cause to take away the jobs of employees. It is also observed various
customers have lost their jobs which affect they spending pattern to purchase or travelling in the
world. Income level is also fall down due to the cause of Covid-19. Many people have migrated
towards their host nations and are not able to come back and also not receiving their salary as
there is not work in the travelling industry.
Presently, due to Covid-19 people have become more heath and safety conscious. It is
also found that both customers and employees become the main concern for the companies due
to their health and safety purpose. The expenditure also increased on the hygiene and safety
concerns and more focus on to offer quality services that are offered by the travel companies.
Travel companies try to influence and attract customers by demonstrating the quality and safe
services to them. Tourist companies such as EasyJet now try to be more focused on the
sanitisation process and cleanliness process so that customers and their staff members will be
impressed by the services (Paulino and et.al., 2021). Somehow, it is a challenge for the travel
industry as they already faced a huge loss and try to recover for the same.

It is observed that tourism industry is also facing the challenge of low occupancy. There
was a global lockdown due to which the industry has represented a low trend with low
occupancy of around zero to twenty percent and this is the key reason of loss for the industry.
Moreover, the spending pattern of travellers and clients has attenuated and are no more willing to
go out for travel and tourism (Liu and et.al., 2020). They are more like to prefer to stay at home
only due to the outbreak of the virus globally. Therefore, it is one the key challenge that are
faced by the travelling companies.
It is important to note that now health and safety is now a common trend that has risen
among citizens. It is found that it becomes more fundamental to take care of health and wellness
of customers and employees. While travelling, the customers more like to prefer to eat or drink
things which are packaged and more likely to eat home made foods. Also, they like to carry their
own blankets so that they do not get infected by the virus or disease. As people are keeping their
safety and health at prior basis, they more likely to take care of their health themselves.
Additionally, it is also found that social distancing norms and guidelines have been
introduced by the government that needs to be followed by the business companies in travel
companies as well. So, nowadays, it is more vital to use modern technologies such as digital
check-in points, thermometer to check temperature of travellers, digital payment system, e-
tickets and many more. Through these modes, a travel company can be able to deliver better and
safe services. It is recommended to the travelling and tourist companies is that they must be
updated themselves with latest and advanced technologies so that they can better indulge
services to the customers (Kadam and Atre, 2020). Also, they are required to make effective
plans and strategies for the marketing campaigns to attract and retain back the customers even in
this situation. It requires huge amount of money to invest so that plans can be implemented. It is
seen that expenditure is increasing in the companies as they go for more digitalised options so
that they can lesson the physical contact with the customers. They can also attract customers by
offering discounts and offers in packages of tourism. All this expenses and spendings definitely
provide a return on it.
CONCLUSION
On the basis of above discussion, it is summarised that Covid-19 pandemic has takes
place in all kinds of industry, whether it is hotel, travel or retail. It is affected on negative terms.
There are many challenges identified in this assignment related to tourism sector. It is important

for all types of companies such as travel agencies or more to make effective plans to overcome
the situation in effective manner. With the help of such plans and strategies, the situation can be
recovered and customers can be attracted and retained back to enjoy the travelling services.
