Use the specification table below (Step 1) and the information
contained in the assessment, to prepare a cost estimate to be included
in a tender for the building of David and Tara King’s garage and
workshop (Step 2). Your cost estimate will be based on the relevant
sections of the Cordell Student Building Cost Guide Including the
calculations used to research your answers.
Your cost estimate will focus on the roofing (23° gable end pitch roof),
bulking, slab, reinforcement, concrete, timber frame, plasterboard and
door and window elements for the construction.
Your cost estimate will include unit costs and cost summaries of labour,
materials and project costs including the following:
i) the calculated labour costs for the site personnel, contractors and
non-contract elements for the construction elements listed
ii) the calculated material costs for the construction elements listed
covering the materials needed, quantities, supplier prices and any
plant or equipment requirements
iii) the costs of anticipated WorkCover, Environmental Protection
Agency and waste management site fee costs
iv) applied overhead and recovery margins.
Step 1
Read the specification table below for David and Tara Kings garage
and workshop to calculate all the items you need to include in your
cost estimate.

Excavation:
1/ Remove topsoil and set aside. (Top 100mm)
Garage Length (m) x Garage Width (m) = 19.5 x 3.28
Total Area x Unit rate = Subtotal cost
63.96 m2 x $2.56 = $163.74
2/ Detailed excavation for trench footings. (0.3m x 0.4m)
Centreline perimeter x Unit Rate = Subtotal
44.36m x $19.20 = $851.71
Excavation total = $1015.45
Concrete:
1/ Footing Beam 0.3m x 0.4m.
Area of Footing x Centreline perimeter = Footing beam Volume
0.12x 44.36= 5.32m3
