INTRODUCTION
It is important for individuals to simultaneously pursue personal and professional
development while completing their education because it motivates them and moves them
towards achieving their life and career goals. In the current age continuous professional
development can be achieved by utilizing CIPD profession map (DOGAN and ALTUN, 2018).
This is because it helps instil a shared professional identity across the industry of human
resources employees so that they are able to apply high quality standards and values during their
daily professional practice. This report is based on CIPD profession map and analyses personal
skills against the standards set in the CIPD profession map. In addition to this a log about
continuous professional development with relevant supporting evidence is also included. Using
CIPD profession map and CIPD log, gaps in professional development are identified in order to
create a professional development plan for the next 12 months. Finally a reflective commentary
which enables identification of milestones and look back upon past experience during studying
and usage of CIPD map is included in this report.
MAIN BODY
CIPD Professions Map and analysis of own skills against the Professions Map
This map provides standards for individuals working in the human resources field to
accomplish the set standards of professional practice (Farrell, 2020). Apart from this the map can
also be utilized for processional development as it helps individuals improve their skills to reach
the expected standard in the human resource field and enhance their performance in the
profession. The skills provided in the CIPD professions map and analysis of personal skills
against the set standards is provided below:
Collaborative
The first element included in the CIPD profession map is collaborative which focuses on
cooperating and coordinating with others in order to accomplish objectives and complete daily
activities with high quality performance. It is also associated with the core knowledge of digital
technology and the role which it plays in improving productivity and collaboration for
employees. This is a significant element in ensuring continuous professional development and
improvement in quality of performance. Collaboration supports sharing knowledge and ideas
with others so that unique solutions can be determined for various workplace values. Effective
3

collaboration helps individuals expand their knowledge about the enterprise and their profession
by collaborating with individuals from different department and fields (Greasley and Thomas,
2020). In context of my personal skills, the level of collaboration and coordination is medium as
I’m not able to easily collaborate with gnu individuals and it takes time for me to settle in a team
environment so that I am able to effectively coordinate with each member of the team and create
synergy.
Driven To Deliver
The next element of the CIPD profession map involves motivation to deliver various deadlines
and ensure that work is being done in a timely manner. It is referred to as drive to deliver under
the CIPD profession map (Guberman and Mcdossi, 2019). The motivation and commitment of
an individual towards ensuring that various activities in the enterprise are being done with
superior quality and there is no possibility of time or resource wastage. The motivation to deliver
best results helps in exceeding clients expectations and is an important element of
professionalism and continuous professional development. This is because it is only the drive to
deliver and accomplish various objectives which motivates an individual towards improving
their faults and enhancing their strengths on a continuous basis. It makes individuals eager to
learn new techniques and understand the usage of new tools so that their work quality and
timeliness is not affected negatively. In context of my personal skills analysis I have high level
of commitment towards delivering best results to superiors so that I am able to exceed in my
academic as well as professional life.
Courage to Challenge
The next element of a CIPD profession map is ability to take on challenges. It is important to
develop a habit of taking on challenges so that new skills can be attained and weak areas can be
improved (Mcdonnell and Sikander, 2017). The habit of taking on challenges and having the
courage to take up challenging tasks also supports professional development as it makes the
individual look more committed towards supporting their enterprise in achieving growth.
Courage to take up challenges helps get promoted because with the help of this element
employees take up new responsibilities for the company and expand their level of knowledge
beyond their peers. In case of an analysis of my personal skills I have effective level off
capabilities when it comes to taking new challenges because I am not afraid of learning new
things and expanding my roles and responsibilities.

Role Model
After this comes the element of being a role model to others and inspiring others through actions
and commitment towards work (Mohammedain and Omar 2021). Being a role model is an
important part of continuous professional development because it helps develop the leadership
qualities which are needed to supervise a team of employees and guide them in the right
direction. I do not have the required capabilities and skill set to become a role model because my
leadership skills are ineffective and I need to further develop my leadership skills in order to act
as a inspiring role model and support my continuous professional development. It is important
that I develop effective leadership skills because leadership skills not only help individuals in
achieving their career ambitions would also support them in continuously improving their skill
set as their able to understand from their peers and experience and leadership position.
Curious
It is the curiosity of a professional which drives them towards learning about new activities and
tools in the industry. It is important for a professional to develop curiosity in context of both
professional and academic life because curiosity helps individuals develop thinking and provide
political ideas for previous problems faced at an enterprise. The curiosity of an individual makes
them try out new tasks and ensure that they're able to fulfill their objectives of improving their
skills continuously. Individuals are able learn from their past mistakes build their knowledge
beyond own professional field. High curiosity level also helps them accept innovations and
unique solutions to problems resulting in development of a creative environment. This supports
career advancement as individuals are able to identify new solutions for various barriers and
challenges while also supporting their improvement in HR field (Muhammadiyeva and
Ibrohimova, 2020). It is important that professionals develop their curiosity level so that they are
able to engage with new ideas without any prejudice or biases and adopt these ideas for their
professional development and achievements of their professional objectives. In context of my
personal analysis, the level of my curiosity is high as I am always looking for a new ways for
improving myself and also to reflect on my past experiences to determine various strengths and
weaknesses. I have high curiosity as I'm always curious to know about new developments, even
if it is not a part of my industry, so that I am able to apply such innovative ideas and thinking to
improve my work, place my personal life or my academic journey. I also like to learn about new
technologies and the ways in which it can be implemented to improve daily activities in human

resource management. This type of high curiosity level has always supported me in improving
my skills and will continue to play an important role in back sentence professional development.
Decisive Thinker
A professional corporate employee faces the choice of making various decisions every day,
which makes it important to develop effective decision making skills. A decisive thinker is
defined as an individual who is able to look at the pros and cons of every situation and make the
most practical decision which will keep the interest of various stakeholders associated with the
business protected. In the current age, managers and employees have access to different kinds of
technologies and large amounts of data which can be utilized to inform decision (Page-Tickell
and et. al., 2021). But at the end it is the individual who is responsible for making effective
decision for the company and guiding them toward success. In this way, being a decision maker
and having decisive thinking skills helps individuals achieve their professional objectives and
gain quick promotions to attain their career goals. Decisive thinking skills contributes in
continuous professional development, as individuals are able to make decisions about which path
to take for developing specific skills or improving strength. I do not have effective decision
making skills. This affects my professional as well as personal choices negatively.
Skilled Influencer
A skilled influencer is defined as someone who is able to persuade and who wins others
towards achieving a specific objective without the use of force. Being a skilled influencer is
commonly demanded for leadership role as it helps the individual construct teams to attain
specific objectives (Tosey and Marshall, 2017). This overlooked part of the continuous
professional development map is an important skill to have when engaging in daily life
circumstances or aiming to achieve professional objectives. This is because a skilled influencer is
able to come out of any challenge, whether it is personal, professional or by influencing and
persuading external parties towards a situation of compromise and attaining personal objectives.
In context of my personal analysis, my abilities as a skilled influencer are limited as I do not
have effective time management skills which can be used for persuading, influencing others, but
also managing an old work. I need to develop my time management skills in order to come closer
towards becoming a influencer.
Personally Credible
6
Document Page
Finally, the last element of CIPD map is personal credibility which refers to capabilities as a
professional in attaining various objectives. I have to gain more credibility by expanding my
knowledge of specific industries where I aim to work in the future. Improving business acumen
and personal credentials is important because it helps individuals position themselves better as an
employee. This is a simple yet effective method of improving professional development and
ensuring that skills are continuously updated with changing external environment.

Reflection
From the above study of personal and professional development this helps in motivating
others and helps in moving towards achieving the goals. The continuous professional skill
development can be achieved by using CIPD professional map. In the continuing professional
development, there are lot of skills which is need to perform any activity efficiently (Mashizume,
and et.al., 2020). I was lacking in some of the skills for which I took several action plan and find
improvement areas. The CIPD professional map provided me standard for working in the field of
human resources so that standards can be accomplished. The personal and professional
development requires several skills. I was good in the communication skill but to become more
better I developed this skill as it is required everywhere to communicate in effective way for
which I will make networking and working on empathy and practicing public speaking. I can
establish strong relationships and engage with others in a way that attracts people to the

organisation by having great communication skills. Because people are impacted by language
and gestures, I may win loyal consumers by having strong communication. It improves my
capacity to use while receiving and giving many types of information because communication
can take many forms, including written, oral, formal, and casual. I developed the collaboration
skill which helped me coordinating and cooperating for achieving objectives with high quality
performance. The collaboration skill helps in ensuring continuous professional development
which aloes supports me share knowledge and ideas with others in workplace. In addition, I
learned about teamwork techniques and skills so that I could communicate with the team and
achieve improved productivity and results (McDonagh, and et.al., 2019). This ability is required
to participate in the group activity in collaboration. I developed time management skill in order
to meet deadlines so that work can be completed on timely manner. The time management in me
helps me in effective planning, delegating and outsourcing task. The developing of decision-
making skill helps me in making important decisions regarding the task. I will analyse the
situation with both its pros and cons to make practical decision which helps in attaining the
objectives. The skill of decision-making help me in facing challenging situations that contributes
in professional development.
