Introduction
The workplace environment is a major determinant for the success of an
organization and performance of employees. According to Raziq and Maulabakhsh, (2015), the
workplace environment is the environment where employees interact with each other and the
customers. Every organization has the responsibility of determining the work environment that
suits their objectives. However, the workplace environment is closely associated with the
performance of employees at work. Notably, a positive environment motivates and stimulates
employees to deliver better results than a negative workplace environment. It should be noted
that organizations must always strive to create and sustain a healthy working environment. This
paper will analyze the significance of a positive workplace environment, and methods of creating
a positive and negative environment.
Importance of Healthy Environment
Positive workplace environment improves the productivity of employees. According to
Robertson et al. (2015), such an environment allows employees to be creative and motivated to
perform optimally. This is because, a positive environment is associated to support from the
management and colleagues. When the employees’ welfare is recognized and catered for they
feel appreciated and ready to deliver high quality results. The increased motivation will be
manifested in increased output as well as through god customer relations.
Further, a healthy working environment builds the reputation of the organization. Good
reputation enables the organization to attract only the best employees from the field. The positive

perception also creates a good impression and hence building of trust from stakeholders. The
mutual relationship enables smooth operations and hence the ability of the organization to
maximize returns and grow. It also enables the growth and healthy wellbeing of employees
contrary to a negative work environment (Ramaci, Pellerone & Iacolino, 2016).
Creation of a Positive Environment
Open and transparent communication framework in the organization is a major stimulator
of a positive work environment. It enables employees to understand the objectives and values
desired of them from the management. Further, open communication allows all members of the
organization to contribute their ideas in the process of decision making. Significantly, open and
transparent communication enables the development of trust among employees promoting
positive criticism and innovation. The perception of employees to work depends on the
workplace environment designed (Shuck, Peyton Roberts & Zigarmi, 2018). Open
communication channels are very important to allow people to integrate and pull efforts together
towards the improvement of work output.
Creation of professional development opportunities is a major method of creating a
positive work environment. Employees would what a place where they are allowed and
facilitated to develop both their soft and hard skills. This is especially important in the dynamic
corporate world where change is inevitable. An organization seeking a positive workplace
environment should be able to train their employees on emerging trends in the work
environment. This will promote the development of positive attitudes of employees towards their
jobs and increase their productivity (Eldor, 2017). These employees will feel recognized and
appreciated by the organization leading to increased loyalty and hence performance. The training

and development enhance the competencies of the employees and hence preparing them for more
responsibilities and challenges at the workplace.
Brand development also enables the creation of a positive workplace. The brand is

with a brand has a consistent manner of treating employees and handling their issues. Successful
brands trust and invest in their employees in a manner likely to motivate them and to promote
teamwork. To sustain a brand, it is important to maintain the workplace environment positive as
a culture in a sustainable manner. Brand development can be associated with activities like
camping and team building activities (Watanabe et al., 2018). This will help retain top talents in
the organization and build a sustainable reputation.
How Negative Environment is Created in the Workplace
The negative workplace environment is created through poor management. Such a
workplace entails poor communication structures, mistrust, lack or no opportunity for
professional development and training, and authoritative leadership that cannot accommodate
views of employees. A negative environment is associated with many workplace injuries,
depression, stress, and high employee turnover rates and poor reputation (Glavan & Ana, 2016).
Further, the organization will likely suffer from widespread graft and theft cases that eventually
lead to low levels of success (Cravens et al., 2015). Hence, a negative workplace environment
should be avoided at all costs as it directly affects the quality and quantity of employee output
negatively.

organization. For instance, it leads to high employee turnover rates hence making an
organization to lose its employees. Therefore, an organization should strive to create a healthy
work environment as a sustainable culture for prosperity.
