An administrative approach refers to the strategies implemented to regulate the
environment and promote safety through the use of measures such as fines thus maintaining
public order. On the other hand, a critical approach utilizes measures of crime prevention set to
redesign the environment to discourage criminal dealings (Bunon, 2014).
Having knowledge of different topologies and frameworks is important since it guides in
establishing the best model of crime prevention based on the environment. For instance,
situational crime prevention model may be considered in an environment whereby there is need
to reduce the opportunity to commit crime.

The idea of “affect” helps in thinking about fear by interrupting the brain processes which
enables the regulation of emotions. Through the “affect” idea, people are exposed to an
environment where they can reflect before acting, thus acting in an ethical manner even in the
events of fear. According to Sutton, Cherney, and White (2014), the idea of “affect” influences
thinking and the process of decision making negatively, hence, leaving people susceptible to
impulsive reactions and intense emotions.
Fear and crime prevention are directly related. Notably, worrying about crime stimulates
a precaution which makes the members of the community feel safer by lowering the risk of
indulgence in crime. Therefore, the fear of crime is regarded as a potential emotional measure of
