This document discusses crime reduction strategies and community safety. It explores the recording of crimes by police and the Crime Survey for England & Wales (CSEW). The impact of crime on victims and communities is analyzed, considering both short-term and long-term effects. The philosophy of community policing and associated legislation is explained. The benefits of multi-agency policing since the 1997 New Labour government are explored. Finally, the effectiveness of a local and national crime reduction strategy in increasing community safety and/or fear of crime is evaluated.
