In the past few years the rate of domestic violence has become an increasing concern.
The research paper would be discussing about the crime of domestic violence in context with the
criminal justice system in the United States. For describing the issues of the increasing rate of
crime of domestic violence in the country the statistical data presented in the national and the
state fact sheets have been referred. The legislative and other measure that can be taken for
controlling the issue has also been discussed in the research paper.
Domestic violence can be described as the abuse or violence in a domestic setting like
marriage or cohabitation by one person to another. Domestic violence can also be termed as
family violence or intimate partner violence. This type of violence includes physical, emotional
and sexual abuse and coercion and also can be seen as to be including stalking by one’s current
or former partner. In the United States, as per the National Statistics Domestic Violence Fact
Sheet it has been observed that almost 20 people become the victim of intimate partner violence
every minute. Further in the fact sheet it can be seen that one in every four women and one in
every nine men have experienced extreme level of physical, sexual and mental abuse from an
intimate partner. The researchers have further observed that in an average more than 20,000
phone calls are placed nationally in the domestic violence hotlines. In furtherance the report can
be seen correlating domestic violence with the increasing rate in depression and suicidal
behavior. Domestic violence is also seen as to be a reason for increasing rates of homicides in the
country. In the fact sheet it can be seen that the women who are the victims of the intimate
partner violence are mostly between the ages of 18-24 years (NCADV, 2019). There have been
various laws enacted both in national and state wide for the prevention of the crime of domestic
