HR Practices of Cyprus
It depicts out the competence among the employees and the
required behaviors that are essential by the company to meet its
strategic aims.
To make the employee align with the activities of the
organization in order to make them more interested towards the
organization.

HR Practices of Australia
• The performance appraisal system is processed on a central
basis.
• Favourable working conditions, the code of ethical conduct
and equal opportunities issues are managed centrally, with
very less involvement of ministries.

HR Practices of Turkey
HRM practices are marginally linked for planning and
reporting.
The process of hiring, recruitment, contract extension,
management of the employees and dismissal are taken care by
the ministry.

• Cyprus is an open, free-market economy. The economy
went down through a shrinking stage in the era of early
2012-2014 such that it resulted in the fall of GDP resulting
in -2.5% in 2014. It was due to the exposure of the national
bank system, and the financial crisis that the region was
facing.

 Turkey growth in terms of trading activity is very poor. The
annual trade balance that stays in an account reflects a deficit
balance.
 The commodity being exported are classified as machinery sold
to other manufacturers, and commodities used by consumers.

• The economy of Turkey is recovering from the recession (2015-16). Despite
the impact of the oil production cuts on revenue, the country’s external
position solidified in 2018.
• The economy of Turkey is recovering at a very fast pace. The recession
period of 2015-2016 brought about a huge effect in the country. The
changes took place because of the higher oil prices, and because of the
effective policy response.

Scope and form of public sector employment
in Cyprus
 Employment as per the central government rose by some 1,044, or 1.83per cent, and by 65
persons, 1.11 per cent, in publicly-owned companies. However, a decrease in number was
observed such that 24 persons were seen in local administration.
 In comparison to that of the 3rd quarter of 2018, employment in the broad public sector hike by
1,527 persons or 2.29 per cent.
 Employment in the public sector, within the 4th quarter of 2018, according to figures released
by the statistical service.

 Australia’s as of March 2018, the total employment data stands for
4,961.419 people. However, this has shown a decrease in the number of
4,962.293in comparison to December 2017.

The Cyprus Government make use of the following below conventions:
 The ILO Migration for Employment (Revised) Convention, 1949, No. 97
 The Migrant Workers (Supplementary Provisions) Convention, 1975, No.143
 The Discrimination (Employment & Occupation) Convention, 1958, No. 111
Cyprus- terms and conditions of
employment

 The working hours include form Monday to Friday; the time
ranges from 8.30am or 9.00am. The entire day work is
completed within 5.30pm and 7.00pm. However, this also
depends upon the nature of the sector.
 Some of the companies allow flexible timing option. The
average working hour is 8.5 hours which comprises of an
unpaid lunch-break. This lunch break exists for about at least
30 minutes. However, a break of nearly 15-minutes is allowed.
 Overtime is compensated either with additional compensation
or in time off, at the discretion of each company.

employment

 In Australia, employment related issues are taken care by the federal and regional levels. The
key federal statutes are:
 the Federal Law on Trade Unions, their Rights and Guarantees of their Activity;
 the Federal Law on Employment of the Population of the Australian Federation (Employment
Law);
 the Constitution;
 the Federal Law on Amendment of Certain Legal Acts of the Australian Federation
(Secondment Law).

source of knowledge, and the flexibility to enact the desired leadership
style in situation of any chaos.

Human Resource Planning of Cyprus
 The human workforce of Cyprus is well trained and versatile, the
island most valuable asset is the human workforce. It makes
available the high availability of the resources, standard offering
of the productivity, technical expertise and professional assistance
at a reasonable cost to the business.
 The total number of labour force of the country is 432,556. The
number of individual serving within the hospitality sector is
81.2%. Within the industry sector the number of individual
working is 16.8%, and that of within the agricultural sector is 2%.

within the region of Australia. The Australian industrial employee and workers
used to work on an average of 11 hour per day (10 hours on Saturday).

• There exists about 200,000 trade unionists in Cyprus. This is
between 55% and 58% of all employees. This figure is obtained
from the Department of Labour Relations. Figures from the
ICTWSS database of union membership pull union density to
lower at 49.0%
