 85% of the critical infrastructure (CI) is owned by this industry
 Protection of CI from natural disasters, terrorism and cyber threats
is quite critical to homeland security (HLS)

 The industry’s contribution to the country’s economy is 15%
 High vulnerability of terrorism may be attributed to –
 Bioterrorism – using the food produced for mass destruction
 Infrastructural damage – using cyber terrorism to disrupt the
industry’s production process

 There is increased risk of cyber espionage, cyber crime and
terrorism due to:
• Lack of an efficient technology
• Inadequate knowledge about handling of the advanced
technological systems is a major concern

Identifying suspicious cyber activities
Identifying potential vulnerabilities in the production
process
Increasing transparency by effective communication
between systems
