Task B – Critical Reflection on Residential Experience
Introduction
Organizational skills are invaluable as it helps one to process in the career. Everybody
has their own unique sets of skills which adds value to the organizational setting. This report will
reflect the attitudes and characteristics I bear which has been assessed through personality tests
and some other career assessments (Paulamäki 2018). Moreover, this report will give an insight
into the abilities I have, the weaknesses and its analysis, so that I can have a better prospect in
the future. This will be analyzed with the help of Gibb’s reflective cycle. A reflection will also
be made where Belbin’s theory will be included.
Explain through Gibb’s Reflective cycle
Description
Residential experience provides us with an opportunity to live and learn. It helps
individual to focus on their goals and within a supportive environment. It also includes the pupil
to a wider learning program that is beneficial for their growth (Komives 2016). I too had the
opportunity to have a residential experience. In this analysis, I will reflect on my experience
during my stay at Lake District. This analysis will also help me focus on my abilities which is
pivotal for honing one’s skills.
Analysis
I had the opportunity to have a residential experience for 3 days in the Lake District.
During my stay over there I have gathered a lot of experience which will stay in my memories
forever. Moreover, the learning experience I have got in the process is unparalleled which helped
me in getting a lot of exposure needed in my life. We played a lot of activities which helped us in

having a team building prospect that included blind folding, shepherd and sheep games, counting
the wooden tracks, climbing the hill tops which is above 230 meters above the mean sea level
and river rafting. I along with my team played these games, and had a lot of fun in the process.
While playing this in a team, a bonding was necessary which we soon caught up that helped in
keeping the spirit of the activities intact. These games were played each day which gifted us with
unique experiences to be treasured forever. The most thrilling experience was river rafting and
climbing on the hill tops. All these games required us to have trusts on each other.
Self-awareness evaluation
The activities and games that I have played during my residential stay have influenced
me in many ways. It has given me an insight into my abilities and what my team members think
of me. In this section, I will point out my positive and negative aspects which will help me in
determining the type of personality I am. Moreover, it has also helped me in correcting my flaws
and strive for becoming a better personality after conducting self-analysis.
The positive aspects
According to the residential experience I have received and the feedbacks from that of
my team members, I have come to understand a few facts about myself. As for instance, I have
the capability of making viable plans in order to reach the target. This has probably been
experienced by them while I was engaged in the activities and helping my team to win. Apart
from that, they have also pointed out the different ideas that I was proposing while conducting
the tasks. According to them, they have liked what I was suggesting and they relied a lot on my
decision making skills during the entire residential experience. They have also appreciated my

good communication skill which came out while cooperating with them during the stay. Due to
this aspect, I have managed to sort out various miscommunications and bridging the gap while
playing the activities.
Negative aspect
There are certain dark aspects which I need to overcome. The team members have
suggested these negative qualities which they have noticed in me during those days at Lake
District. As for instance, they have said that sometimes I work alone without involving the
group. Moreover, during this process, I do not interact much with others and keep an isolated
attitude which makes me distant from the others. On analyzing, I have realized that it must have
created a problem among my friends, thereby I am treating this as a negative quality. However,
at times, I have enjoyed doing work by making myself aloof. This particular characteristic of
mine could become a negative one while working in a group.
Some of my weaknesses which stand as a barrier between by career and profession are
the inability to interact with many people. Moreover, I am often guided by sentiments and
emotions which, at most of the times, can pose a threat to my role as a leader. Therefore, in order
to adjust myself with the needs, I need to change certain facets of mine which would help me in
becoming a successful leader. As for instance, I need to enhance my communication skills, take
charge of responsibilities, have a control on my emotional stability, and be lesser idealistic at
times.
According to the tests, I have scored 72 on emotional control which means I need to have
a control over my emotions and not get carried away by it. The negative emotions can too often
come in overshadow by amiable behavior, however, I need to learn the importance of the
emotional stability which will impact on my behavior and my success level. In addition to that, I

have got a score of 75 in the sound decision making experience which indicates a fair judgmental
abilities in me (Beus 2015). I have a fair scope for improvement in this field as I have to go
through some analysis which will help me in making sound decisions. However, my personal
resilience has got somewhat lower score which says I have a lower degree of coping with
change, a low problem solving attitude, a moderate self confidence level, and a lower working
with others capability, support networks and organization, Moreover, I also have assessed my
personality test which would give a sneak peek on my leadership abilities according to the type
of personality I have (INFP). The personality test also provides an insight into my character and
the type of person I am which will help me to define the type of leader I would make.
Apart from that, I think my creativity and innovation aspect will be helpful for an
organization where I can solve many problems with sheer new ideas (Lynch, Lynch and Clemens
2018). In order to have a better hold into the leadership and managerial aspect it will be
important for me to hone my skills which will take me a long way in the leadership and
managerial abilities.
Synthesis
From the above analysis, it can be concluded that my ability to be a leader can certainly
be honed, and with age and experience I will become more adept in handling complex situations.
Leadership in management has always been an intriguing aspect for me which has time and
again influenced me to choose this field as a career (LI et al. 2018). My residential experiences
have somehow helped me in opening up myself and interact with many people. Moreover, self-
assessment has also proven to be a lot helpful in analyzing my flaws which I have taken up as a
challenge to overcome.

Belbin Results
The Belbin’s theory says that each and every individual has their unique traits and
characteristics, which facilitates the growth of a team. They help the team in some way or the
other as they leave their valuable distinctiveness and take part in the formation of the team
(Flores-Parra et al. 2018). According to this theory, my personal assessment also has some
important characteristics which would be beneficial for the team’s growth. This theory also
pointed out the importance of having mixed roles in the team (Zhou et al. 2015). As for instance,
I can contribute in the team with some of my unique natural abilities which will be helpful while
working in a team (Omar et al. 2016). These natural abilities are of course refined along with the
team’s needs and help in the proper assistance of the team through the work it brings. In regard
to this context, I have to assess the qualities that I need to enhance which would help me in
building a team.
Personal resilience
The score board has indicated a low personal resilience factor. This included facets like
problem solving approach, coping skills, working with others, support networks, etc. (Rosenbach
2018). I have to work upon this aspect as I am anxiety prone that might arise due to various
circumstances (Cooper 2016). Therapy and increased concern about this aspect may solve this
problem of mine, and with time, I am hopeful to make an impact on the team with the qualities I
possess (Bourdage, Wiltshire and Lee 2015). Another important aspect that I need to focus on is
in building a strong network which would aid me in various circumstances. This advantage of
networking is multifaceted as it throws opportunities in the way. Moreover, networking also
helps to interact and communicate with a lot of people who would eventually help me to open up

a distinct phase of mine which remains hidden (Ion, Mindu and Gorbănescu 2017). That of
course does not mean that I have to interact with people who exhaust me. In order to have a
quality relationship, it is pivotal for me to actively participate while connecting with people.
Hence, the relationship with people may bring in lots of advantages to me which I can use later
in my life for grabbing opportunities that come in my way (Kiersch and Peters 2017). Not that I
should depend on these networks, but I need to help each other grow so that both the parties get
fulfilled in this type of relationship.
Creative ability
The Belbin’s theory can be applied to the business and a mixed role of various positions
can be brought in for the utmost success of the group. According to the personality assessment, I
have an important aspect that might help me in getting the recognition while I am working in a
team (Caldwell and Hayes 2016). This is the creativity aspect which is present in me and has
been hinted by the assessment test as well. I have this gift of subtleness where I would be able to
contribute in the team with the talent that I need to apply every time the team works demands.
Apart from that, I also have a penchant for working alone. This reflective aspect of mine
is very different from that of the extraversion. This aspect will help me in identifying the things
which is needed to be there in the team and help it while growing altogether.
In addition to that, INFPs are generally good natured and get attracted to situations where
gentleness are valued. Therefore, it might help me to instil an atmosphere which sees other in a
compassionate manner (Martin 2018). The Belbin’s theory is applicable here as I might be
helpful in creating an atmosphere of placidness and trustworthiness which will facilitate the team
to have an invigorating workplace. Similarly, the creative aspect will also come to be of major
use in the process. The other important aspects of my personality will also surely help in the

team as it would provide them with a new experience which would generate a lot of assistance
along with other members.
Conclusion
In reference to the above analysis, it can be concluded that the personality assessment has
provided me with insight into my character and have helped me to analyze the various nuances
required for a team to thrive. In addition to that, the residential experience have provided me
with an important opportunity to open up myself to a lot of challenges. The personality test has
shown me the type of character I am, and the various strengths and weaknesses which I can use it
on my advantage. Many a time, one cannot learn everything by living in a family spectrum. It
has been especially true in my case, where I have learned a lot from the residential experience I
have been provided with. As for instance, I used to feel intimidated while talking to strangers and
new people. This problem has been eliminated a bit due to the exposure I have received during
my residential experience. In addition to the communication skill, I have also enhanced my
knowledge about various things which is beneficial to sustain in life. It has also taught me
perseverance, timeliness, discipline, etc. which is indeed essential for me to work in a team. The
journey so far has been an interesting one with a lot of ups and downs, knowledge gathering, and
the applicability of these knowledge in real life situation. I am sure to learn a lot more when I get
a real life organizational situation to deal with which will make me more adept at handling things
in a business setting.
