1CRITICAL THINKING AND MANAGERIAL DECISION-MAKING
Introduction
The ability to have a critical thought process as well as demonstrate the proper decision-
making skills within the organization is one of the major factors that determine the managerial
abilities of the employee within the given organization. The education of a person plays a huge
role in the eradication of the issues that are faced by the students in their future lives due to their
biasness on a certain factor situation at large. The following paper attempts a critique on a given
article. The paper opens with the critical analysis of the article with a close look into the various
components that were included within the given article. The paper further proceeds to evaluate
the article on the basis of the issues that have been discussed within the article. The paper nears
and end with the discussion on the future implications of the article.
Critical Analysis
The following paper in discussion attempts to shed light on the issues that are posed due
to the lack of the proper reasoning capabilities and skills of the students who have been
completing their studies in the subject of economics. The major aims of the authors of the study
is to find out the result of the various types of instructions that are provided to the students in
terms of the critical thinking as well as the dispositions that are observed in terms of the biasness
that exists within the students. The major background of the study refers to the lack of the critical
thinking abilities on the part of the students and the existing biases in the minds of the concerned
students. The existence of the biasness however, leads to the clouding of the proper reasoning on
the part of the student thereby leading to the unjust and the biased judgement on the part of the
student (Heijltjes, Van Gog & Paas, 2014). The authors of the article tend to highlight the major
issues that are faced by the students in the demonstration of the critical thinking abilities of the
students. The authors further suggest that the educational facilities are required in order to assist
the development of the critical thinking skills of the person as well as the reduction of the
biasness which in turn affects the reasoning and the development of the decision-making skills of
the person concerned (Garrison, 2016). The majority of the issues that are highlighted by the
previous researches on the matter state that the education of a person plays a huge role in the
eradication of the issues that are faced by the students in their future lives due to their biasness
on a certain factor situation at large (Franco, 2016). The authors present further evidence on the
fact that the students who have taken up economics to be their subject of study tend to deal with

the lack in their abilities to think critically or make proper and appropriate decisions in the
complex situations that are presented to them.
The major objective of the given research article was to put forth an examination of the
effects of the varied instructional methods that have been undertaken for the development of the
critical thinking abilities of the student. These abilities might thus help the students to be take
proper decisions that are necessary for the overall development of the business organization in
general. The core research question that is addressed in this case is the proper way that should be
implemented in order to help the concerned organizational employee to deal with the critical
situations and thereafter tend to provide the proper decisions that would be helpful in dealing
with the given situations. Franco and Almeida (2015) state that the type of training required for
developing the critical thinking and decision-making capabilities at managerial level is extremely
important in the development of the solutions that are required for the overall development of the
organizational performance in terms of the situations that are faced by the concerned business
organization.
The research was conducted on 141 students who had been studying in the second year in
the department of Economics and Business Education within the Dutch University of Applied
Sciences. The study was conducted on 57 male students and 84 female students who were
divided into five groups on a random manner (Heijltjes, Van Gog & Paas, 2014). The
participants were made to deal with the questionnaires on the basis of the groups that they had
attended. The employees were judged on the basis of the mental effort that they had put in order
to put forth a proper decision for dealing with the concerned situation. The authors are observed
to have implemented the disposition scores through the conduction of the regression analysis in
order to develop a proper understanding of the raw data that was obtained from the
questionnaires that were solved by the participants.
The major findings of the article state that the hypothesis of the authors tend to be
correct. The authors suggest that the courses in economics fail to help the student to develop the
critical thinking skills that are required for putting forth the development of the overall
performance of the company as well. The major findings of the article state that the organization
of the knowledge was possible through the application of the knowledge that was gained through
the experiences of the implementation of the concerned organization (Heijltjes et al., 2015). This

further helps in the derivation of the issues that were learned during the sessions from the
memory of the person thereby leading to the development in the critical thinking as well as the
decision making in the managerial levels within the organization.
The study would help the future researchers in developing a better understanding of the
importance of the critical decision-making as well as the effects of these abilities on the overall
performance of the concerned company (Weissgerber, Reinhard & Schindler, 2018). The
research further helps in the development of the ability of the concerned managerial staff to deal
with the crisis situations that are faced by the company in discussion (Tiruneh et al., 2018). This
in turn helps in the development of the competitive advantage of the company in the given
market as well.
Critical Evaluation
The article states that the critical thinking abilities of a manager is of paramount
importance in the development of the business organization. The existence of the biasness leads
to the clouding of the proper reasoning on the part of the employee thereby leading to the unjust
and the biased judgement on the given situation within the organization. The educational
facilities are required in order to assist the development of the critical thinking skills of the
person as well as the reduction of the biasness which in turn affects the reasoning and the
development of the decision-making skills of the person concerned (Dunne, 2015; Saiz, Rivas &
Olivares, 2015). The majority of the issues that are highlighted by the previous researches on the
matter state that the education of a person plays a huge role in the eradication of the issues that
are faced by the students in their future lives due to their biasness on a certain factor situation at
large. The major strengths of the article lie in the fact that the article discusses the ways in which
the managers within the given business organization might put forth a development of the
concerned business organization through the development of their own critical thinking skills
(Kwan & Wong, 2015; O’Hare & McGuinness, 2015). The major weaknesses of the article lie in
the fact that the research article was based on the reasoning skills that were demonstrated by the
people who were known for the biased reasoning. Thus, the findings of the research cannot be
generalized (Cowan, 2016). Then study further fails to discuss the implementation of the rewards
among the employees who have been known to have better skills of decision-making and critical
thinking.

4CRITICAL THINKING AND MANAGERIAL DECISION-MAKING
Thee article in discussion is important for the future researches as it provides the base for
the other researches to develop from the findings of the present research. The research further
helps in the development of the ability of the concerned managerial staff to deal with the crisis
situations that are faced by the company in discussion (Bellaera, Debney & Baker, 2018; Self &
Self, 2017). This in turn helps in the development of the competitive advantage of the company
in the given market as well.
Conclusion
In lieu of the above discussion it might be pointed out that the enhancement of the critical
thinking abilities of the concerned employee tends to develop since his educational days. The
study would help the future researchers in developing a better understanding of the importance of
the critical decision-making as well as the effects of these abilities on the overall performance of
the concerned company. The educational facilities are required in order to assist the development
of the critical thinking skills of the person as well as the reduction of the biasness which in turn
affects the reasoning and the development of the decision-making skills of the person concerned.
The majority of the issues that are highlighted by the previous researches on the matter state that
the education of a person plays a huge role in the eradication of the issues that are faced by the
students in their future lives due to their biasness on a certain factor situation at large.
