INTRODUCTION
Operation management is the main aspects for the organization which develop the business
functions and activities by formulating effective strategies and planning. This can be defined as
all business functions that performs planning, organizing, directing, leading and controlling the e
ach function. In changing environment needs and wants of people is changing day by day where
it is important to understand the needs and provide the kind of products and services. Operation
management is an area of management that is connected with controlling, and designing the
production and redesigning that can help to attain the business goals. This involves managing the
operations of a business for the purpose of ensuring efficiency in running the project effectively.
A person should have different skills and abilities which can be used to accept the challenges and
managing the higher performance (Carroll, Ford and Taylor eds., 2019). Operation management
is the main activity for each organization in which it manages the resources, capital, and other
services for the purpose of increasing production and delivery of products and services.
To understand the operation management Sainsbury has been taken that is second largest
chain of supermarket in the United Kingdom. The management of such organization perform
various function by following the operation management process that can help to accomplish the
organizational goals. The operational functions of retail sector understand customer’s demand,
managing operating, bringing products, managing orders, organising each orders, and supplying
the products which can help to develop the business productivity and profitability.
MAIN BODY
Contemporary strategic management is the continuous process of managing and
organizing the each activity that relates to organization and supports to increase the production.
This encompasses through traditional approach and strategic thinking which uses to providing
range of products and services This is important for each organization to know what their
customers wants and how they can be satisfied so that products are provided accordingly.
Sainsbury is the second largest retail sector organization which was founded in 1869, by James
Sainsbury with a shop in Dury lane, London. The company became the largest retailer of
groceries in the year 1922. Sainsbury split in to three divisions such as Sainsbury Supermarket
Ltd, Sainsbury Bank, and Sainsbury Argos. The operational management of such organization
plays important role as it conduct the market analysis and introduce new products as well as

services which can help to develop the business performance and productivity. The organization
started a retailer of fresh foods and then iy expended packaged food and groceries such as sugar,
tea, ice cream, and other kind of products which can help to develop the higher range of
products. The management of such organization follows the operation management strategies by
formulating effective plans that supports to managing the all functions and activities (Asaaga and
Hirons, 2019).
The operation management create the everything which buy customers sit on, wear, eat, through
at people which develop the organization function. In context to Sainsbury, All operational
management is working properly by organising the functions and activities effectively. The
management introduces new products and services as per customer demand and provide the
higher level of satisfaction that can help to increase the business performance.
Rationale of conducting the project
Strategic management is the main activity for business organization as it states what, why
and how to perform the organizational function. The current research is about contemporary
strategic management which is formulated by management and leader in order to developing the
business productivity. This brings the new products and services by establishing new strategies
that attracts potential customers and supports to attain the higher business performance. the
researcher will conduct the proper research by using different resources and methodology that
will help to develop the skills and abilities in particular area and provide the good opportunities
(Ritchie and Jiang, 2019). To conduct the research there is need to have proper knowledge and
skills that supports what needs to do and how for the purpose of completing study and attaining
the goals. According to authors, strategic management is the important function of each industry
as it introduces different planning which can be used to increase the business performance.
For each organization it is important to analysis the market and introduce new products
which can help to reach the potential customers and increase profitability. Managing operations
and structures necessitates a slew of separate decisions that decide their overall function,
structure, and procedures. The way procedures and processes are planned and implemented has
an effect on the company's ability to produce the product or service. Furthermore, any company
that has mapped and optimized its processes will create new revenue. Moreover, any company
that has identified and optimized its operations has the potential to create new marketing

opportunities by increasing capacity and improving processes. The description of operation
management model is explained below:
Direct – This is the first stage which used by organization to understand what their
customers wants and what functions needs to perform. This is overall strategy that states holistic
view of company by considering different strategies and planning that can help to operate the
business regularly by translating strategy in to reality. This can help to attain the long term vision
of the organization by managing each function. In relation to Sainsbury, management is playing
the important role who use operation management model by turning planning in to reality. In
this, goals is decided and discuss with all team members that can help to arrange the raw material
and finished products from different distributor at lower cost (Ho, 2019). For running a business
cost matters a lot as it uses to buy the products and sell them different prices for the purpose of
getting profits.
Design – This meaning designing of operation, products, process, procedure, and services
that can help to develop the business performance. The task of study the specific structure, shape,
and design of operations and processes, as well as the processes and products that they create, is
referred to as design. Understanding the stakeholders, as well as the internal/external buyers and
vendors, can help to provide a more complete picture of how the design can be improved. In
context to Sainsbury, by understanding the demand of products production department started to
manufacture or prepare the products. In this, focus on material, information and customers that is
important for organization and helps to increase the organizational sale. Operation management
is the process of preparing or designing products as per demand that can help to run the business
and attaining the business goals.
Deliver – This stage and strategy is relation to planning and controlling the process
delivery. When products and services are introduced by management then customers place the
order to buy such products. This involve transforming resources in which different facilities and
staff are provided to organization that uses to attract the large number of customers and increase
the organizational sale (Hussain, Bui and Kim, 2019). The distribution of goods and services
from manufacturers, as well as the entire process, to consumers, must be prepared and managed
after they have been designed. By triggering top management to any change from the schedule,
quality management and quality control allow the process to run smoothly. In context to
Sainsbury, manufacturing department, sales department, customer services, marketing, and other
