Motivation plays an important role in developing theproductivity of employees, which in turn has a positive effect on the organization as a whole.The importance of motivation in the workplace has increased in the current businessenvironment as compared to the previous times. The workforce in an organization comprisesof people from diverse backgrounds and generations as well. The importance of motivationhas therefore increased much more in this case. The emotional and social intelligence of thesupervisors or managers play an important role in the motivation of the employees.SUPPORTING FACTSThe organizations are trying to survive in the ever-changing and highly competitivebusiness environment. The managers of the company are highly skilled in their own fieldsand they are also highly educated. However, the connection that they have with theemployees is the major factor that affects the motivation levels. The challenges related toretention of employees is quite common for the different organizations whether it is a smallor big sized organization. The differences in the generations of employees is a major problemwith respect to the levels of motivation that need to be provided. The ways of providingsuccessful motivation to the employees in a multigenerational workforce is a challenge forthe organizations. The emotional and social intelligence of the supervisors or the managers isan important factor that affects the motivation that is provided to employees. The differentgenerations that are present in the multigenerational organization are divided into four types

The managers need to play animportant role in managing this workforce. The success of a multigenerational workplacedepends on the ways by which the managers understand the challenges and dynamics of thedifferences between the generations. The major challenge that is faced in these types oforganizations is the levels of communication between the employees of different generations.TEN SPECIALIZED TERMS1.Multigenerational WorkforceThe multigenerational workforce mainlyconsists of four different groups of peoplemainly, The Traditionalists, The BabyBoomers, Generation X, Generation Y. Themotivation levels, perspectives, needs andthe attitudes of the employees in thedifferent groups are diverse in nature. Thetraditionalists are those who are present inthe organization for a long and are hardworking. They prove to be good teamplayers and are able to work togethereffectively. The ways by which thetraditionalists react and process theinformation differs from the younger groupof people. The baby boomers are mainly theleaders of the company. This group ofpeople are work-centric and loyal in nature.The employees belonging to the generationX have entered the organization after theirtraditionalists and baby boomers. They havedifferent ethics related to work and theirculture is also quite different. Theemployees of the Generation Y group arethe newest entries in the company. Theseemployees are creative, tech-savvy, smartand optimistic. The major goals of theorganizationsconsistingofmultigenerational workforce is to managethe employees of all the generations in aneffective way. 2.Employee MotivationEmployee motivation is mainly related tothe levels of commitment, creativity andenergy that is brought by the workers of thecompany. The organization always needs tofind ways by which they can motivate the
