How cultural diversity can affect the business performance in ASEAN? In the view
between Vietnam and Thai?

Introduction
Considering the diverse workforce nowadays, the important of cultural competence
has been one of the most important skills to manage effective business performance
considering Association of Southeast Asian Nations, also known as ASEAN. The cultural
skills and competences are essential for establishing cultural diversity and ensure proper
understanding and communication of information among people from different cultures,
furthermore, adopt the organisational values and beliefs within the workplace of ASEAN. For
managing cultural diversity within the workplace, communication is essential along with
focus on team development to promote coordination and teamwork (Low, Roberts and
Whiting 2015). The research also sheds light on the Thai and Vietnam people who belong
from different lifestyle, culture and experiences, still manage to work as an unit within the
workplace.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is an inter-governmental organisation
that consists of ten nations of Southeast Asia, which has been mainly associated with the
management of intergovernmental cooperation, trade activities and management of political,
economic, military, security, educational and socio cultural aspects among these nations and
adjacent nations in Asia. It has managed combining these ten nations for cooperative working
in the Asia Pacific region and also managed diplomatic missions all throughout the world
(Nielsen and Nielsen 2013). The vision of the organisation is to promote a “stable, prosperous
and highly competitive ASEAN economic region, where there is a free flow of goods,

services, investment and a freer flow of capital, equitable economic development and reduced
poverty and socio-economic disparities”.
The investments should be done for ensuring that the training sessions are provided to
make employees knowledge and learn about the different culture, furthermore feel much
more convenient to speak and communicate with the other workers. With the management of
cultural diversity at Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN, the organisation has
already managed to remain adaptable and flexible to face tough challenges and respond to
changes much more easily and all these aspects will be the focus of this research (Fernandez‐
Feijoo, Romero and Ruiz‐Blanco 2014). The research will also consists of ways of collecting
data and information to constitute the methodology part while the literature review will
present us an idea about the concepts associated to the cultural diversity management and
how it has influenced business performance. The research limitations will be drawn at last to
ensure that the findings are free from errors and a better scope can be created for doing
research in the future (Noe et al. 2017).
Research Aim
The research aims to determine the impact of cultural diversity management on
Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN.
Research Objectives
To identify the impact of managing cultural diversity within the workplace of
Association of Southeast Asian Nations
To evaluate the various approaches for promoting cultural diversity management and
impact the business performance positively
To assess the effects of maintaining a cross cultural diverse effects on communication
process and teamwork in the workplace
