1CULTURAL SOCIOLOGYNationality and Individual PlacementIndividual placement in a society is of utmost importance to every human being on thisearth. Their background, race, culture and human dynamics play a huge role in deciding howthey would be placed within any society. Nationality is one among the many factors that decidethis situation. Understanding the importance of nationality is thus very important (Mulkay 2014).The first step in placing an individual in any society is to examine and understand theircultural histories, ethnic heritages, values and beliefs, and finally their nationality. This isapplicable to all, irrespective of their race, ethnicity, nationality or gender. Beyond that, theidentification process must be extended to the cultural aspects of the nation from which theindividual belong. In other words, it is important to understand, embrace and warrantee forreexamining and adjusting our worldviews for effectively practicing in a nationally competentmanner. Nationality provides a base for understanding in which country a person belongs to andwhat are the possible national attachments and obligations that person might have. Nationalityimplies the place of birth of a person, simply making it the national identity of any individual.Nationality effectively provides people with a legal connection and personal allegiance to anyparticular place. Nationality is psychological in nature and therefore acts as the source ofpatriotism and self-sacrifice (Kelly and Baker 2013). The psychological connections ofnationality dictate the way a person conducts, which in turn plays a huge role in deciding howthat person would be placed in a society. Nationality plays a huge role in deciding how anindivual would socialize. It decides people’s statuses in the society, involving race, religion,ethnicity, economic status,occupation, or class. Families provide the initial form of socialplacement. Such as, a person might be born into a white, Irish, Catholic family, where the motheris a politician and the father is a lawyer. This would affect how the person is viewed by other
