This social media hasvarious current practices and thus involving in several significant scenarios for the purpose ofproviding exclusive advantages to the users. This literature review will be focusing on the topic ofsocial media as well as all of its current practices. These current practices help the business by settingseveral organizational goals and objectives. The next significant advantages are building brandawareness and gaining new customers. Moreover, the customer services could be easily strengthenedwith the help of social media. The overall engagement with the business is solely increased with thesocial media. The correct networks of social media should be selected for eradicating the excess timeconsumption. The products and services are well defined and advertised with the help of social media.The literature review of the social media and its current practices will be provided here. IntroductionSocial media is the proper collection of several channels of online communication that are solelydedicated for the inputs are based on community, significant collaboration, sharing of contents andbetter interactions. The websites as well as the applications, which are dedicated to social networking,forums, social networking, micro blogging and various others within the social media types. Socialmedia has become the most important and integral part of the users since the social media websites aswell as the applications is proliferated (Hampton et al. 2014). The most traditional means of socialmedia mainly involves several social components like comment fields for the users. Within anyspecific business or organization, this social media is utilized for marketing the products, promotingthe brands, fostering new businesses and even connecting to their current customers. The social mediaanalytics is the proper practice of collecting and keeping data from all the websites of social media orblogs and thus analysing those data for taking or making various business decisions. The most basicutilization of the social media analytics is for mining the customer sentiment for the purpose ofsupporting marketing and various customer services activities. Social media has brought excess change in the overall point of views of interactions with peers,friends, customers and various other people. Apart from the personal usability, social media is alsoused in the businesses for marketing products. The company can easily validate the brand with thehelp of this social media. There are various social media networking sites present in today’s world.The most significant and popular social networking sites that are in current practice mainly includeFacebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google+, Pintrest, Snapchat and Foursquare. Theaccess to any type of news and connection with the rest of the world has become extremely simplerwith the help of this social media. Moreover, the social media is responsible for bringing out moresuccess in business by means of marketing any product for the company. The embedment of the machines for allowing the operations withoutany detailed knowledge of the workings (Laroche, Habibi and Richard 2013). One of the mostsignificant advancement of this technology is social media. Social media is the tool or application forsharing information amongst various people. This type of social media mainly involves variousnetworking websites such as Facebook and Twitter; even bookmarking websites such as Reddit. Thereare various advantages of this social media and thus the problems with this technology are also facedby the users. Definition of Social MediaSocial media is the most utilized platform for interaction through the connection of Internet.According to Van Dijck (2013), social is the catch all term for the variety of various application ofInternet, which subsequently enables the users for creating content and also interacting with oneanother. This specific type of interaction could be taken in various forms. However, some of the mostcommon types of social media interaction mainly involve sharing of various links to any interestingand important content that is produced by the third parties, sharing media like photos, posts andvideos, posting own point of views, commenting on the various posts, updates, photos, links andvideos that are shared by other users and public updates to any particular profile like involvinginformation or data on the recent actions or activities and also location of the data (Van Dijck andPoell 2013). It is the group of several websites in which all the users eventuallynetwork for social means. Social media comprise of various features with it. The most significantfeatures of this social media are as follows:i) Web Space: The first and the foremost feature of the social media is web space. The websiteof the social media must provide their users completely free of cost web space for the purpose ofuploading any content.ii) Web Address: The second significant feature or aspect of the social media is web address.Hollebeek, Glynn and Brodie (2014) state that the users of the social media are provided with aunique web address, which becomes their unique web identity. The users thus can share as well aspost all the contents on the specific web address. iii) Building Profiles: The next important aspect or characteristic of this social media is thecreation of several profiles. The users of the social media are eventually asked for entering all of theirpersonal details such as names, addresses, schools, colleges, date of birth, various educationalqualification and professional details and many more. Van Dijck and Poell (2013) have stated that theparticular web site then is responsible for mining all the personal data or information with the purposeto connect with other individuals (Refer to Appendix One). iv) Connection with Peers: The fourth significant characteristic of the social media is theconnection with peers or friends. The users are encouraged for posting all types of professional andpersonal updates regarding themselves (Nah and Saxton 2013). The web site of social media, hencebecoming an important platform for the connection of friends and relatives. v) Uploading Content in Real Time: The users are given proper tools and techniques forposting proper contents within real time. The content could either be text, audio, video, images or anysymbolic likes or dislikes. Due to the involvement of real time, the social media is extremely popularfor its users. vi) Enabling Conversations: The conversations of the users are easily enabled with the helpof social media. According to Luo, Zhang and Duan (2013), they are given the rights in commentingon various posts and thus, a great social connect is enhanced. vii) Posts having Time Stamp: The next significant feature of the social media is the that theposts on the social media have time stamp. Since, all the posts are eventually stamped with time, theentire procedure of following any post is extremely easy than others (Refer to Appendix One). Advantages of Social MediaHampton et al. 2014 state that when all the communications channels are dedicated to the communitybased inputs, interactions and sharing of contents together, they are collectively known as socialmedia. The simple procedure of sharing of contents is collectively known as the social media. Thereare various advantages or benefits of this social media. These advantages are given below:i) HighConnectivity: The first and the foremost advantage of the social media is extremelyhigh connectivity. The entire connectivity in the entire world is extremely advanced and thus the userscan easily connect with all other people. As per Marwick and Boyd (2014), there is no such restrictionthat the social media could be accessed from any specific part. The thoughts could be easily sharedwith the help of social media.ii) ProvidingEducation: The second significant advantage of this social media is to provideproper education for the users. This is useful since the teachers and the students are getting benefittedfrom this and hence the experts and professionals could easily access the information or data throughthe social media. iii) Information as well as Updates: The third significant benefit of the social media is theinformation as well as updates. According to Ashley and Tuten (2015), the users can easily updateabout themselves from the latest occurring and happenings in the surrounding.
