Describe STEM education. What is its significance to globalization and the economy?
STEM education basically refers to “Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths”.
However, it is often seen that these subjects are taught to students while they are studying in
schools. It is necessary for an individual to have STEM education because the subjects which are
included in this are helping in laying down a foundation for critical thinking and also a language
for their future (Agustina and Setiawan, 2019). When education is involved with an expectation
of future the growth and success of society can be seen. STEM generation is an important
concept required for providing education to the coming generation. The evolution of career as
well as industries is also supported by STEM Education as it can eventually help in changing the
communities that are left unprivileged. With the growth of technology and science it have
become necessary that children are provided with an exposure to technology in their very early
age itself. Studying various technologies will also help various learners in an economy to use
various tools of technology and make potential use of it. STEM education is also helping to
develop various powers that relate to reasoning, deductions as well as development of mastery in
pattern recognition.
Several countries are necessarily required to compete in the market place with each other
while they plan on going for globalisation. This competition is usually depending upon their
economies. There are a number of such economies that deal in more than one sector and there are
a number of industries that have various effects on the market place globally. The literacy rate of
any country is effective in describing the ways in which economy of a country will upscale.
Also, there are microeconomic studies that prove that appreciable returns can be seen in the
investment that are made on education sector (Corneille and et. al., 2020). These returns in
education sector are usually seen in the form of accelerated earnings and reduced unemployment
of individuals. When all these factors are taken into consideration it can be seen that the returns
that can be linked to any social factor are justifiable for economic development which also
supports education. STEM education is helping to make sure that involvement of a child should
be holistic in the learning process. With the help of STEM education being introduced there are a
number of other opportunities which are now contributing towards the growth of gross domestic
product in an economy. There are a number of surveys suggesting that difference between
STEM and NON-STEM education disciplines cannot be found easily. However, there are a
