Reflection on Group Presentation Performance

This report provides a reflection on the author's performance in a group presentation, identifies areas for improvement, and presents an action plan for skill development. INTRODUCTION
Reflection is a very useful tool in learning that allows recognizing own strength and
weaknesses in order to use this to guide on-going learning (Specht, 2017). With the help of
reflection practices, individual can develop own skills in self-directed learning, can improve
motivation as well as quality of work effectively. This report is based on my reflection on my
performance in the group presentation. This report will aid in determining some aspects that I
have learnt during the presentation, analysis of some areas that I have identified for the
improvement as well as an action plan for my skill and performance practices.
MAIN BODY
1. Reflect your performance in Group presentation
Working in a group always provides a greater experience to an individual. A working
group performance is made up of the individual results of its entire individual member. Being
part of a team will always help an individual to develop their interpersonal skills such as team
working, coordination, speaking, listening and so on. While working in a group presentation,
I analysed that all these skills will be useful to me throughout my academic career as well as
all are valued by my employer in future (Giles, 2016).
Working with a group is often very challenging but my experience in this regard is
quite different. Me and my friend taking a participation in group presentation in order to
enhance our experience as well as skill appropriately. One Primary thing my group did well
was working together. In this regard we distribute work equally on assign some specific topic
to each group member. My topic in group presentation is on Physiological and behavioural
effects of sleep as well as Impact of Motivation.
What have I learnt?
While working in a group, I have learnt so many things as Data gathering practices,
coordination attribute, research skills, public speaking and somehow problem solving skill as
well. All these activities take place at a time group presentation because it is a typical
approach to work in a group with different people who have their own perspective and views.
At a time of Topic allocation I analysed that individual have to choose something which
belong to their area of interest because on which they can share some interesting facts easily.
But things cannot be in our favour every time, thus there might be some possibility that we
allocated by a topic on which we only have little knowledge or maybe not. In my case same

happened to me as I have allocated two different topics as Physiological and behavioural
effects of sleep as well as Impact of Motivation (Rubens, 2018). In between them, I found
motivation as an interesting topic but Physiological and behavioural effects of sleep was like
something new but I found it quiet interesting at a same time. Thus, one major thing that I
have learnt during the group presentation is a research and analysis on some different as well
as interesting topics.
What new information has been presented?
During the group presentation, I have learnt so many things in which research in a
new topic were provide a new experience to me. On the topic Physiological and behavioural
effects of sleep I have gathered so many interesting information by analysing different
sources or by taking help of my seniors and group members. Most interesting information
that I have presented was on Sleep as I found that sleep leads to cognitive changes that assist
in restoring neural connections. It also assisting in optimal emotional control, decision
making, and social interaction as well as assisting in optimal emotional control, decision
making, and social interaction practices. Information was on Motivation as it includes
expectations and requires intervention at the same (Mejia, 2016). Furthermore, it is a most
important factor that leads success and achievement in individual’s life.
What was interesting?
My experience in group presentation was quiet interesting because we have done a
better job at presenting the information that we have collected. On a personal level, I feel that
I did a good job of restricting myself to only including some specific details that were crucial
to my arguments. Some other interesting areas of group presentation was analysis of data on
the basis of secondary sources in which authors provide their views and opinion on a specific
topic. Furthermore, I was found myself as a shy person who feel hesitated while speaking in
front of audience but at the time of our group presentation my public speaking had gotten a
lot better and it was easy for me to represent my ideas easily in front of others. Through this
presentation, I analysed some of the areas that I needs to develop thus I plan on learning and
speaking in front of people as much as possible to further improve my public speaking skill.
How might I use the new information?
I found some new and interesting information on different topic as Physiological and
behavioural effects of sleep as well as Impact of Motivation on individual. All the

information that I have been collected can be implemented by myself in my professional
career. As to relax myself, it is needed to take a proper sleep through which I can make my
mind free from so many things or to maximise ability to absorb new knowledge easily. On
the other hand, I also analyse some sources that assist to motivate individual as appreciation,
performance appraisal, and timely rewards etc. all these analysis approaches will assist me in
attaining desired success easily (Kot, 2017).
What did I not fully understand or confused me, and what did I do about it?
Some things that create barriers in front of me is implementing views of others in my
research. Furthermore, a collaboration with other create difficulties for me because it is so
hard to understand views of others and implement them in own work. It also creates some
confusion for me to make all things clear for all the group members at a same time. Major
reason behind this can be lack of coordination and poor communication approach of us. Thus,
it was take a lot of time to reduce hurdles and represent our ideas in front of public.
2) Elaborate on the areas that you need to develop further
With the help of above analysis of the group presentation it is determined that for a
student it is important to take into consideration various areas that they need to improve so
that they can accomplish their objectives in their professional and academic activities. On the
basis of different phases that were undertaken while making group presentation various areas
of improvement were identified such as I had to make presentation on physiological and
behavioural aspect of sleep due to which I had to develop a significant understanding of
various concepts like cognitive changes and its impact. Due to this I had to undertake study
of the topic as I have no prior knowledge of it. Our assignment included presentation of the
data so gathered in front of the audience and while undertaking this I realised that my public
speaking skills are not good because of which I had to plan learning and speaking confidently
in front of others. This will help me in more presentable before others which will give me
advantage in executing my professional roles. While gathering the data I realise that that I
was not that good at it and due to this I faced significant amount of difficulty in integrating
the views of others with my views and outcomes of the research. Upon this I decided that I
must work upon my understanding skills with the help of which I can understand the views of
others.
Apart from this, there exists the lack of communication among all the team members
due to which they could not understand views of each other which affected our performance

as we could not justify the findings of other team members. Lack of communication is also
the reason of difficulties in understanding the views of others. In addition to this, at the time
of gathering data and analysing it I realise that many of the activity were duplicated which
happened because of lack of coordination among all the team members. To meet this I realise
that I need to work upon my team management skills so that professionally I can work with
my team members which better coordination. Lack of coordination and communication
among all created tremendous confusion which delays our completion of project on time due
to which grades were not good as expected. With this I decided that I will work upon all the
area that needs improvement so that I can enhance my employability and can ensure
sustainability in career.
3) Develop an action plan
Action Plan is consists of various activities which are to be undertaken by the individual so
that they can accomplish their goal. Such a plan is prepared on the basis of identification of
various strength and weakness from various events that has taken place. With the help of
these plan an individual can bring necessary improvement in their personality
(Brinkmann,2017). Action Plan that will be used by me for solving various issues faced
above by gathering various skills is given below:

CONCLUSION
It is concluded from the above report that an individual must take into consideration
various areas that they need to improve upon as with they can ensure performance in
academic as well as professionally. To support this focus must be laid on various events that
have taken place as by analysing such events the problem faced by them can be identified on
the basis of which they can plan their improvement areas. For this an action plan is prepared
by the individual so that we can undertake various activities for gathering various skills to
improve their areas.
