1 RESEARCHING MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS Rationale Online abuse and cyber crime is rife on social media as well as other sites across the globe and different countries are attempting to deal with the situations in a different manner. However, in United Kingdom the cyber crime can be broken into two different categories. The primary one is the most common abuse directed to someone, often by ex partners, classmate or colleague. The second category is the one where the blackmailers threaten the victims, if their demands are not met. Women are mainly the victims and the attackers often threaten to post their morphed pictures online. Cyber crime has now become a global problem and is rapidly increasing. The research will focus on the issues faced by the victims and how they reacted on this. In addition to this, the research will also propose some strategies in order to regulate the issue to some extent. Aims and objectives The aim of the research is to analyze the current situation of cyber crime and the ways it can be regulated. The research objectives are as follows: i.To examine the current scenario of cyber violence. ii.To find out why is this issue increasing rapidly. iii.To find out which section of the society is mainly targeted. iv.To recommend a number of better strategies that could be used for the regulation of cyber violence.
2 RESEARCHING MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS Cyber Violence Today, more and more people have the power to access the social media and internet. The cyber violence has become an increasing concern, which is mainly targeting women and young girls. Researchers dealing with this topic have estimated that one in ten women faced some sort of cyber crime or violence. In addition to this, it is seen that mostly the younger girls are targeted and become the victim of severe cyber violence forms. In order to shed more light on this growing challenge, experts have published some guidelines which can regulate the violence to some extent. Moreover, United Kingdom has adopted some good practices and interventions in order to address the issue in an appropriate manner. Research Methodology The data has been collected from the secondary sources and a qualitative research method has been carried out. Quantitative research method has helped in gaining useful insights from the existing sources like literatures, theses and existing papers on this topic. Various scholars have presented their valuable opinions on this topic, which has helped in framing the research in a detailed manner. Moreover, the existing materials are being utilized and presented in an ethical manner, without any fabrication. Citations are given in an appropriate manner. However, more information will be given after carrying out a qualitative research method. The qualitativeresearchmethod will help in gatheringan in depth understanding of the human behavior regarding the topic and how it can be regulated. Interviews and surveys will help in establishing the paper more appropriately. Along with that, questionnaires will be given out to the college and university students for the statistical representation of the study’s findings. Interviews with the experts in the related area will be conducted for more detailed approach.
