Cyberbullying: A New Form of Aggressive Bullying

This presentation discusses cyberbullying, a new form of aggressive bullying that has emerged with the rise of technology. It covers the different types of cyberbullying, its effects on victims, and how it differs from traditional bullying. Cyberbullying is a persistent and aggressive form of bullying that is carried out through different media forms such as chat rooms, online games, and instant messaging. It is more widespread than traditional bullying and can harm the victim more due to its intensity of expanding faster and further. The presentation also highlights the role of communication medium, form of violence, and empathy in cyberbullying among adolescent bystanders.

CYBERBULLYING
• An aggressive form of bullying where the bully hurts the social
status of the victim.
• A very persistent form of bullying especially in schools and colleges.
• A repetitive act which happens over time because of the imbalance
in power among the individuals.
• Three types of bullying such as verbal, social and physical.
• Cyberbullying is a new type of bullying which has come into
existence with the emergence of technology.

• Most common form of cyber bullying is threats,
harassment, spreading of rumours and making fun of the
victim (Kopecký 2014).
• Different media forms such as chat rooms, online games
and instant messaging used by the bullied to threat and
use bad words against the victims.
• The bullying is initiated to hurt the reputation and
sentiment of the victims.

CYBERBULLYING VS
TRADITIONAL BULLYING
• Cyberbullying is a much widespread act as compared to traditional
bullying.
• It is an indirect form and hence the bully find more confidence to
harass the victim as they cannot be stopped or controlled.
• The range of spreading the rumours and harassment is far more
than traditional bullying and hence the audience is huge (Barlińska,
Szuster and Winiewski 2013).
• The audience for traditional bullying is controlled to a group of
friends, university or school.

• The victim finds no way to escape the bullying in cyber
bullying and the bully can continue the harassment
through different other medium when one is blocked
(Cappadocia, Craig and Pepler 2013).
• Most of the time the bullies in cyberbullying were at one
point or the other victims of traditional bullying.
• Cyberbullying can harm the victim more than traditional
bullying due to its intensity of expanding faster and
further.
