Introduction
The report is prepared for the development of a network solution for a large university
that has a new building and a ten storey office block in the centre of town. The building block
is needed to be turned into administrative and teaching space by housing 100 computers for
each of the floor in the building. The floor is needed to be isolated and the main network is
needed to be divided into a sub network. The building floor is needed to be connected to the
LAN and configured as separate VLAN for reducing congestion, packet loss and jitter in the
network. The report is prepared by demonstrating the design prepared for the building. The
number of device needed to be deployed for interconnecting each of the department is needed
to be identified and the cables used for interconnection is also needed to be identified for
increasing availability of the network. The alternatives of the backbone network design is
identified and described with the help of the WAN design. The cost of the device and the
supplier details are attached with the report that would help to eliminate the constraints for
the development of the network solution.
LAN Design
The local area network solution is designed after a detailed analysis of the current
framework of the university and the floor plan of the building block. For developing the
network the requirement is aligned and a list is prepared containing the network device and
the other needed for the development of network. An analysis is made on the emerging
technology for its application in the network and increase the efficiency of communication

between the different hosts connected in the network. A preliminary design of the network is
developed such that it can be used for the development of the network.
The technology that can be applied for development of the local area network solution
is identified for enabling the network to improve network performance. The network device
and hardware that are essential for developing network solution should be identified for the
preparation of LAN design. The main components identified for developing network solution
is Cisco 2811 series router and it is connected with two layer three switch for enabling
configuration of server.
The network devices are needed to be connected via high speed link such that
sufficient bandwidth is available to the user for performing different activity in the network.
The local area network solution is designed following the design principles considering the
privacy and security of the network. The connectivity of the endpoints is needed to be
supported and the network is needed to support consistent bandwidth and should have
