Experience:
The Torrens University of Australia is interested in a new record management system
for the student. The system requires a database so that the students those are enrolled in the
university, the courses those are selected by the students and the staffs those are teaching the
courses (Belcher & Belcher, 2017). The system permits the staff to update, delete and add the
student record, the staffs those are allocated to the courses. The staffs of the university can
able to view the list of the students that have enrolled in a specific course by a specific
instructor.
The main objective of the project is to deploy the system and then test and authenticate the
system. The project is designed for the University and provides a student record management
system. The system is able to store the records of the students, the details of the teachers and
the subjects and the teachers those are allocated to the students. The development and the
maintenance of the records associating to the students are important in order to administer the
relationship between the student and the University and controlling the academic progress of
the student and measuring their accomplishment (Livingston, 2019). A student is a person
that can register in order to pursue a course or a program in the University. A data of the
student includes information those are directly associated to the student that consist of name
of the student, ID of the student, phone number, address, course allocated to the student and
the allocated teacher for that particular student. The records of the students should be kept
safely so that the other staffs of the University cannot access them (Livingston, 2017). The
systems have various functional and non-functional requirements. The system will permit the
registrar to send emails, the systems will process and then print out the transcript of the
students and the system will contain all the personal information about the student. The non-
functional requirements of the system include verification and the validation of the input of
the user and the user. The system will permit the admin to delete the records in the record

management system. The record management system can be linked to a database and it will
be very easy for the administrator to maintain the database (Sullivan et al., 2016). The
administrator of the record management system has the power to add, delete, update, and
delete the records of the students and the staffs those are allocated to the students.
The new student record management system will serve purposes such as managing the
name of students those who are getting enrolled, staffs those who are coordinating with
students and many more. This database will contain data of the students who have been
enrolled in different courses in the university, courses offered as well as the staff assigned to
these courses. The university wants to develop a database management system that can
contain these interrelated data along with a specific set of programs so that that these data can
be accessed as and when required (Rajasulochana, Heggede & Jadhav, 2019). This will help
the university to store as well as retrieve data. The university can thus be benefitted from the
usage of this database in many ways. Firstly it will provide data independence, data can be
accessed efficiently, data integrity as well data security can be ensured and data can be
administered in a proper way. The data that is stored in the database can be accessed by much
number of users at a time.
The DBMS will support different functions which are common to many of the
applications that are accessing the data stored in this system. Centralization of the data will
help the university to access the data when required and make it easy for the users to retrieve
data. The system to be developed will give users the provision to add, update as well as delete
the records that have been stored anytime they want to (Wijekumar et al., 2016). The
university staff will be able to see the list of students in a specific course and the course
coordinator for the same. This database will help the university to organize data in a proper
way with the ease to access theses as and when required. Thus once implemented it will help
the management of the university to arrange the data in a proper way.
