TASK 1
(A) Research tittle aim and objective
Tittle:
What effect does TV have on family dynamics and the upbringing of children and
teenagers?
Aim:
“To assess the impact of TV on family dynamics and upbringing of children and
teenagers”
Objectives
To assess the role played by TV in development of family dynamics and children
To evaluate the impact of TV on family dynamics and upbringing of children
To recommended the ways teenagers can better developed themselves through TV
(B) Rationale of the research
In present scenario, family dynamics and the upbringing of child and teenagers is greatly
affected by various kind of factors. Television has become very influential source of media in
life of any child. One of the main reason behind selecting this study is to assess the impact of TV
on family dynamics and development of Teenagers.
(C) Literature review
Role played by television in development of family dynamics and children
Family dynamics is defined as the the way or pattern in which people in a family interacts
with each other. The type of channels and program which people watches plays a very important
role in family dynamics. As per the view of Livingstone and Helsper, (2006). television helps
people in the family so enhance relationship with each other (Livingstone and Helsper, 2006.).
Some channels supports in enhancing family values which plays a very important role in family
dynamics. On the other side of this Watson and McMahon (2005) has explained that the
educational shows, health related shows and quiz shows are very helpful in development of a
child (Watson, and McMahon, 2005). These shows helps children to enhance their knowledge
and become more competent. However Livingstone and Bovill, (2013) argued that somewhere
or the other, television has created various obstacles in the development of a child (Livingstone
and Bovill, 2013). TV encourages children to sit at home and avoid outdoor games and activities

which are essential for their overall growth and development. Further it also lower down the rate
of development by making the child isolated.
Impact of television
In modern era, the use of Television is increasing with a great speed and has various
kinds of impact on the life of people. As per the view of Caprio and et. al., (2008) TV can be
very beneficial for children and teenagers as it helps them to become aware of various concepts
which thy otherwise cannot become aware of (Caprio and et. al., 2008). Majority of the times
children and teenagers learn what they see and observed and thus, what they watching on TV has
a great impact on their lifestyle. Further channels such as discovery, national geography helps
them in getting aware about the innovations and other aspects of life (How TV affects you,
2015). According to Perrin, Bloom and Gortmaker (2007) TV has become a very valuable tool in
making the teenagers and children engage in very valuable work. Being a kid or teenager it is
very hard to avoid TV as it has become a trend among people (Perrin Bloom and Gortmaker,
2007). In some houses television remains on even if no one is watching it. Berns, (2012) has
explained that TV can be very entertaining and educational to teenagers and children as it can
open a entire new world for them (Berns, 2012). However Granich and et. al., (2010) argued that
the family member of children and teenagers need to take care of three major factors which are
what to watch, how much to watch and when to watch (Granich and et. al., 2010). Now a days
television is playing a very big role in the growing years of a child. There are various kind of
negative impact which television is having on the growth and development of child and
teenagers. Sometimes children gets so engaged in watching TV that they forget to do their home
work. Furthermore, too much of TV can also results in the development of poor sleeping habits
in child (Impact of TV, 2015). Excessive TV also creates various kind of health related problems
to a child and can also encourage negative behaviour from him.
(D) Research methodologies
It is the section of study which contains the tools and techniques that are being employed
by a researcher in order to carry out a particular research (Onwuegbuzie and Leech, 2005). This
section covers some of the major areas such as research approach, philosophy, design, data
collection and analysis.

Research approach- Research approach highlights the method which a scholar use in
order to carry out a particular study in appropriate manner (Burck, 2005). In the present
study, deductive approach will be used in order to gain more specific information
regarding effect does TV have on family dynamics and the upbringing of children and
teenagers. Research philosophy- The terms research philosophy depicts the values and belief of a
researcher at the time of carrying out a particular study. In this study, interpretivism
philosophy will be used in order to assess the impact of TV on family dynamics and
children. Research design- Research design is termed as the framework which a scholar use in
order to carry out a study and accomplish its aim and objectives. In the present
study, descriptive design will be chosen as the researcher will be describing different
elements of the study. One of the main reason behind selection descriptive design is that
it will help the scholar in developing a deep knowledge regrading the issue which is
associated with the study. Data collection- Data collection is defined as the process in which a researcher gather
information with regards to the topic of study. Further it also helps in accomplishment of
the research aim and objectives in best possible and desired manner. In the present study
both primary and secondary sources of data collection will be taken into consideration.
The primary data will be gathered from 50 people of UK and in order to collect
secondary data various books journal and online sources will be taken into consideration. Sampling- In the present research random sampling technique will be used which is a part
of probabilistic sampling method. The sample will be people of UK and the sample size
will be 50.
Data analysis- It is defined as the process of interpreting the information collected from
various sources. Further both the techniques of data analysis which is qualitative and
quantitative will be taken into consideration in this study.

of this is that the study has been carried out in most effective manner and the best possible results
are obtained.
(C) Sample used
Sample is termed as a small part of which represents the entire population. In the present
research the sample is people of UK and the sample size is 50. furthermore, random sampling
which is a part of probabilistic sampling method has been adopted.
Validity and reliability
The researcher has well taken of the validity and reliability of the entire research.
Focusing on the validity, only authentic sources of data collection are taken into consideration. In
addition to this, a lot of time and efforts has been given by the scholar in order to make sure that
no baisness and misinterpretation of data occurs in the entire research. On the other hand, only
reliable sources have been taken into account for collecting information regrading the topic of
study. The data analysis is also done in credible manner which has enhanced the overall validity
and reliability of the study.
Limitations
The major limitation which has been faced by the researcher are mentioned below as:

Constraint for money and time- The researcher was having limited time and financial
resources at the time of carrying out this study. Further it affected the results of study to a
certain extent.
Problems in primary data collection- At the time of collecting primary data, the sample
size was limited as in order to assess the information from large sample, a lot of financial
resources and time is required. At first the respondents do not agree to provide the data
and then it become very difficult for the scholar to make them agree.
Assessing in literature review- the secondary information on the effects of TV on family
dynamics and the upbringing of children and teenagers was very limited.
Issues
One of the major issue which has been faced by the researcher at the time of
implementation was regarding lack of knowledge in terms of selecting right tools and
techniques for research methodologies.
