1DEBATE ON EUTHANASIA Should euthanasia be legalised? Euthanasia can be defined as the termination life of a very ill individual with incurable disease to protect them from further suffering. Euthanasia is illegal in the most of the countries and to perform euthanasia is considered as a murder in most of those countries (Minerva & Sandberg, 2017). However, in my point of view, I think euthanasia should be legalised. The reason behind this choice is discussed below. Performing euthanasia to a person with incurable disease is ethical as to prolong suffering to any living animal is unethical. In most of the cases, keeping an individual alive with the help of a machine is just tantamount of prolonging that person’s suffering. Without the help of outside help the person cannot survive and even with the help of the machine could not even perform any activities of life and hence, its raises the question of whether this can be living (pp. 519 – 520). If the person cannot interact with his/ her loved one albeit help from the biomedical machine, that person should be allowed for euthanasia. This is only prolongs the person’s suffering. Terminally ill patient also very heavy emotional and financial burden on the family. No matter how much a family can spend, their loved ones will not be cured. During the time of treatment, the family will only suffer emotionally as there is no emotional reconciliation as they were dangled between both extremities (Naga & Mrayyan, 2013). Another aspect is that a person should be allowed to die with dignity. Living with the help of machine is not dignified (pp. 522 -523). Additionally, we also allow euthanasia for pets which are loved like family and which raises the question why not for our loved ones. Therefore, considering the above points it can be said that the euthanasia should be legalised for the sake of person who is suffering with incurable or terminal disease.
