1. Describe and illustrate two main differences between
ARIA-Conflict Engagement (CE) and ARIA-Action
Evaluation (AE).
ARIA-Conflict Engagement (CE) can be considered as a plan for managing conflicts. The steps used
in ARIA involves Antagonism, Resonance, Invention, as well as Action. In order to resolve a conflict a
manager needs to address issues associated with the conflict, by using several procedures like-
collaboration, counseling techniques, negotiation and so on. A painful past forms the surface for the
occurrence of ARIA-conflict. In other words, a painful past can be considered as the base or starting point
of a conflict. A painful past can not only be considered as the starting point of a conflict, but also be
observed as the process of exposing Antagonism, either in an analytical way, or more dynamic way. The
process can be characterized as negative, relational as well as dynamic. The emphasis is more on Us than
on Them. A building design which does not support the burning of fossil fuel can be referred to as

sustainable building design. The reason that a building design prepared with the minimum or no use of
fossil fuel, is called sustainable building design, because of factors. A brief discussion regarding fossil
fuel will be helful to trace out those factors. On the other hand, in the case of ARIA-Action Evaluation
(AE), is applied on the in those cases, in which there is a pre-determined future goal. ARIA-Action
Evaluation (AE), considers that the observation of others’ behavior is essential, as others’ behavior often
becomes equally responsible for the preparation. ARIA-Action Evaluation (AE), is often applied to
identity-based conflicts. In other words, a painful past is not the base of the ARIA-Action Evaluation
(AE). It is possible that the identity –based conflict is completely engaged with the switching process.
Unlike ARIA-Conflict Engagement (CE), ARIA-Action Evaluation (AE), in case of the identity-based
conflict, allows ‘switch’ to occur sufficiently.
2. Define and distinguish Antagonism and Resonance. Give an example.
