1 DELEGATION IN NURSING Introduction Delegation and preceptorship in the nursing sector is very much dependent on each other and it has been found that the leadership skills of a nurse can effectively help in handling this kind of responsibilities. It can be stated that the knowledge of the right person, right activity, right circumstances, right communication and right supervision and evaluation are the factors of an authorised nurse to develop the plan of delegation as well as preceptorship (Barrow and Sharma 2019). Based on this idea it can be found that the registered nurses hold the authority to delegate other nursing employees to work according to the plan. However, the leadership skills of the registered nurse play a crucial role in the process of delegation of roles and responsibility to othernurses. In thefollowingsectiontheeffectivedelegationplanwilldiscussed in accordance with the case study of the Wisteria Village. Discussion The registered nurse of Wisteria Village responsible for the night shift from 2200 hours had faced different difficulties during this shift. The case highlighted that there was one enrolled nurse, two extended care assistant and one nursing student present to support the registered nurse to handle the shift hour. There were some patients including Mrs Peterson who was receiving end of life care, Mrs Lee facing knee joint pain, Mr Lloyd was with Parkinson’s disease and diabetes type 2 and Miss Bell who showed the issue fall. The registered nurse was well known to the issues of Mrs Peterson and Mrs Lee and received call at 0210 hour from Mrs Lee complaining about sore knee and asking for medicines for the condition. She also evaluated the request of the patient and found that it was effective as well. However, other patients’ condition was not effectively evaluated by the registered nurse. On the other hand, Miss Bell found on the floor and the extended care assistant could not lift her up as she was unconscious. Moreover, Mr Lloyd has not been found on his bed and near the area he was admitted to. Now, the condition can be marked as severe and the registered nurse should manage the situation according to the nursing standards and also focus on the patient safety. Thus, the nurse should employ leadership skills and delegate the subordinates for proper action (Wagner 2018). In order to plan the proper delegation, the nurse should develop a plan first in order to address all the issues regarding the context of the patient care and safety management. It can be found that the situation of the hospital ward was severe and the registered nurse had to plan a proper management of the situation. Hence, she needs to employ the right people to the right work and right circumstances. Hence, the evaluation and planning would be required. Moreover, the influencing factors and the leadership skills are also required as the registered nurse needs to address all the issues and manage the situation. Furthermore, the delegation would be leading to the preceptorship for the employees of the hospital as well (Baddar, Salem and Hakami 2016). The nurse should employ the senior extended care assistant that is Diana to handle the situation of Mrs Peterson and her family as she has been an experienced employee and the hospital residents know her and also respect her. On the other hand, other casual extended care assistant that is Thomas should be employed to lift Miss Bell to her bed under the supervision of registered nurse and with the help of her as well herself to follow the nursing legislations. The enrolled nurse Priya would be sent for the medication supply to Mrs Lee as soon as possible as Mrs Lee was an impatient resident of the hospital. Finally, the registered nurse, casual extended care assistant Thomas and the nursing student Jorja should went out for searching the other patient Mr Lloyd and take him back to his ward for his own safety.
3 DELEGATION IN NURSING Moreover, the doctor should be informed about the situation of Mrs Peterson and other patients to provide them proper support as well. The above-mentioned plan should be considered by the registered nurse to handle the situation properly and help the patient and provide them effective care as well. The registered nurse should have the critical analytical skills and also proper communication and influential skills to effectively delegate the employees to the right work and right circumstances to handle the situation in a better way (Magnussonet al.2017). Otherwise, the process of the handling of this situation would not be in action and the delegation would also not be effective as well. Hence, it can be found that the leadership skills and the knowledge of the nursing standards and legislations would be necessary for the registered nurse to handle the situation and manage the negative condition as well (Duffieldet al.2019). Moreover, the actions of the registered nurse and the interpersonal skills along with the involvement with all the employees and patients for the better outcome would impact over the employees as well. This factor would lead to the preceptorship and help other employees learn from the registered nurse as well (Serrat 2017). Hence, it can be found that the proper implementation of the nursing knowledge and skills along with the effective communication with the people under the leader would help in the understanding and rapport build up as well (Khumalo and Giyose 2019). Based on the case scenario it can be found that the employees of the hospital facility welcomed the registerednursewarmlyandalsocommunicatedwithherprofessionally.Hence,proper implementation of the communication skills and maintaining the rapport with the subordinates will be helpful and also and effective trait of leadership (Auberry 2017). This process can be helpful for the proper delegation of responsibilities on the employees without harming the professional relationship or mental stature of the subordinates (Sayani 2016). Hence, it can be stated that the process of the care and also effective knowledge about the handling situation

4 DELEGATION IN NURSING would help the registered nurse or nursing leader to delegate employees in a way that can effectively help the employees to learn and play the role and responsibility properly as well. Thus, it can be stated that the proper knowledge and leadership skills are very much important for a registered nurse to handle the negative situations occurring the hospital facilities as well. Moreover, the ethics and also the professional standards of nursing should also be effectively followed along with maintaining the influence over the subordinates in a positive way to maintain the professional standards and quality of care as well (Schoenly, Crean and Hamilton 2017). Conclusion Based on the above discussion it can be concluded that the knowledge of professional role and standards along with proper leadership skills would effectively help the registered nurse or the nursing leader to handle the negative situation properly in the workplace. Moreover, these factors would also be effective in the process of the delegation of the subordinate employees as well as in the preceptorship on the employees. Hence, it can be stated that the process of the care should be considered with all the factors earlier mentioned factors for the nursing leaders. Moreover, it can also be stated that the process of the care should be considered with the patient centred approach of care that is implementing the process of care in a positive direction and for positive outcome seeking. Thus, it can be comprehended that for delegation and preceptorship the nursing leader should have the knowledge and leadership skills along with effective situational management processes.
