1. Five principles of palliative care according to World Health Organization:
Palliative care is defined as the type of specialized clinical care for the individual
suffering from serious illness. There are certain principles formulated by WHO (2019) for the
palliative care of the individual. According to WHO (2019), the principles of palliative care are:
It helps in improving the quality of the life of the patient suffering from chronic illness and
also to the families of the patient who are associated with severe life- strengthening illness.
It assists in prevention of the disease by the early identification of the illness.
It helps in providing relief from the suffering.
It conducts impeccable assessment of the disease and the treatment of the pain.
It focusses on the prevention of physical, spiritual, and psychological.
2. Five emotional response demonstrated by individual upon the diagnosis of the life-limiting
and life threatening illness:
Emotional response is referred to as the response of the body to a specific situation
influenced by external entities. Diagnosis of the life-limiting illness can initiate certain emotional
response in the individual and their families of the patient. It can be a stressful incident for the
patient and the families as they know they are going to lose their closed one (Sloan et al. 2017).
Diagnosis of the life-limiting and life- threatening disease on the individual can give rise to
certain emotional response which are:
Feeling of depression
Feeling of stress
Feeling of anxiety

Feeling of fear
Low self-esteem and self-confidence
3. Five consideration relative to the provision of culturally appropriate palliative care:
Five consideration which is required to provide culturally quality and safe care to the
individual suffering from life threatening disease are:
Sensitivity regarding the cultural beliefs and practices of the others.
Staff should be trained and skilled in practices of safe culture.
Organizational commitment should be provided which supports and recognizes
cultural diversity amid staff and residents.
Individuals considerate for culturally diverse residents should be aware of influence
of their cultural beliefs on their culturally safe practice.
Professional language should be used with the non-English speakers to provide
significant information (Hannon et al. 2016).
4. Five personal strategy to manage reaction for grief:
Grief is defined as the personal experience which vary from person to person. Grief
disrupts the times of calm and peace of the person instantly (Thompson and Lund 2017). To
overcome the feeling of grief, certain strategies can help the individuals. These strategies are:
Express the feeling creatively among the other individuals
Talk with friends and family.
Take care of yourself especially your physical and mental health.
Avoid using any addictive drugs to numb feeling of grief.
Honor the memory of your loved ones.

5. Advance care directives:
Advance care is a type of legal form or is also known as living will. Healthcare directive
and personal directive. It allows the individual to write down their wishes, instructions and
preferences related to health care in the future. The preferences and wishes of the individual are
taken into consideration when the patient is suffering from illness or any life-threatening disease.
Advance care directives helps in providing end of life care, personal and living arrangement of
the individual (Thomas, Lobo and Detering 2017). Advance care directives allows the
individuals of over the age of 18 years to write their will.
6. Strategies used to the promotion of comfort to the patient;
It is the role of the nurse to comfort the patient in order to get better recovery of the
patient (Woo et al. 2015). The strategies to implement comfort are;
Continuous observation, monitoring and documentation of the patient’s report.
Establishment of the pain-relieving measures with the help of appropriate member
of the healthcare staff.
Implementation of several measures such as, relaxation, aromatherapy, massage,
distraction which can be used to relive pain and promoting comfort in to the
individual
7. Disadvantages of nutrition and hydration in individual who is suffering from life
threatening disease:
In case of patient suffering from chronic illness, or is suffering from life limiting disease,
or have imminent death, artificial nutrition and hydration is provided. Artificial nutrition and
hydration is provided as they have lost their appetite and also have lost the ability to swallow
anything. However sometimes, artificial nutrition and hydration is withdrawal as it is assumed
