Question 2
Project Management Aspects
1. Introduction
The design of the hi-tech robotics laboratory involves the critical aspect of the
involvement for every form of necessary stakeholders within the design project. The project
would be designed for the Scottish Enterprise Technology Park. The laboratory would be mainly
used for performing Research and Development (R&D) while also providing training in the field
of robotics. Hence, the land has also been acquired with generous kind of funding derived from
the Scottish government.
2. Discussion
During the implementation phase of the project, certain aspects in relation to scheduling,
resource and cost information. These can be discussed as follows:
1. The developing of specifications over the concerned project would incur a total cost of
£3974 GBP. The entire step of scheduling would incur the role of finance manager, chief
technologist, laboratory manager, architect and purchase manager.
2. After defining of specifications, the location for developing the laboratory would be
determined. The total cost required for completion of this phase is £9964 GBP. This phase would
be completed within a 6-month period of time.
3. The entire layout of the project would be designed by the chief technologist, purchase
manager, finance manager, laboratory manager and architect. The cost incurred for the phase is
£3974 GBP, which would also be completed within 6 months.

4. A diverse range of software and equipment would be used in which each of the
concerned stakeholders would work together. The entire design phase of the project such as
construction works would be completed within a budget estimation of £1000000 GBP. This
phase would be completed within a time period of one month.
5. The other kind of phases are based on installation of new equipment in the
laboratories, testing them, training of staff and the final moving of new facilities to the location.
Each of the phases would be completed with proper accuracy and within the estimated budget.
However, some issues and risks that could be incurred within the project plan and their
ways of mitigation could be discussed as follows:
1. The layout plan for the laboratory might not be finished as per the necessities of the
project. Hence, there might be a need to re-design the entire layout, which might incur additional
of costs that might increase the estimated budget for the project.
2. Moving the equipment and facilities to the new location and finishing off with the
project design is considered as a big kind of challenge. Hence, proper planning would be
required that would be managed by project manager working over the project. Resources should
thus be allocated accordingly so as to assist them within the project.
3. Conclusion
Based on the discussion over the project, it could be concluded that the different aspects
of the project such as cost, resources and scheduling should be done in a proper manner. The
report focuses over some issues that might occur during the project design phases. Based on
mitigating the issues, the project would be directed to a positive direction and thus can be
accomplished successfully.

1 £180 Training Manager would check
each of the training materials
and equipment used within the
laboratory.
Training of staff 10 £3400 Training Manager and Trainers
would be indulged in the
training activities.
During the entire phase of training, some issues could be found and which should be
mitigated. A diverse range of categories of risks and issues could be discovered within the
project. Some of the critical risks that could be incurred within the project includes the factors of:
selection of training staff, determination of training schedules, increase in the cost of training
materials and difficulty faced during setting of training area.
Risks Mitigation Areas
Selection of training staff The choice of proper training staff should be done prior to
the start of the project. These trainers should have high form
of expertise over the training materials.
Determination of training
schedules
The training schedules should be prepared with a prior form
of discussion with the training staff. This schedule should
be prepared by corresponding with their individual
schedules and preparing the updated schedules.

Increase in the cost of training
materials
The cost of equipment might get increased due to which the
cost estimated during the training phase might get
increased.
Setting of training area The setting of the training area by placing the equipment
and materials in a proper order should be done properly.
This would further help in bringing benefits towards the
project.
Question 5
The discussion in this report would focus over the different risks that might get incurred
within the training period.
The certain form of issues that have been identified and which should be improved for
the betterment of the project are described in the following parts of the report. The selection of
the training staff should be prepared on an advance basis. Different training service providers
should be looked before selecting the final training provider for the project. After the training
staff have been selected, the training schedules should be prepared by consulting with the
training staff, determining their schedules and thus preparing a unique schedule that would suit
the needs for the project.
During the procurement of the training materials and equipment, it might be seen that
there have been a certain increase in the cost of the materials from the estimated budget over the
certain area of the project schedule. Hence, some extra amount of funds should be kept in hand
so as to help in such kind of situations. After the training staff have been selected, the training
area should be set up in a proper manner. Improper setup of training related equipment would
certainly delay the start of the training sessions.

Question 6
Risk Identification and recommended solutions
There are a wide number of categories based on risks that might be associated with the
project. Increasing form of prices for the training materials, choosing of the proper training
providers, setting of the training equipment would be considered as the vast form of risks that
might approach towards the project. Management of project budget, communication issues, risks
within the operational functionalities of the project are various categories of risks that might get
incurred for the project.
A diverse range of risks and identification of the categories would be considered as
helpful for identifying the areas that would need some form of improvements. These are
discussed within the following sections:
Risks Mitigation Areas
Management of resources Each of the technical resources or human resources
identified for the project should be selected based on the
market standards. The deliverables for the project should
also be approved from the project manager and other higher
management working over the project. The resources
should also be appropriate according to the plan of the
project. Hence, they should maintain each of the resources
for proper form of project management.
Management of Cost Factors The planning for costs incurred for the project should be
estimated on a prior basis. Different kind of costs are
incurred for the project. These should be listed and planned
accordingly based on benefiting the project structure.
Scheduling of each of the resources beneficial for the
project should be done on a prior basis such that each of the
resources would be allocated particular costs for their level

of efficiency.
Issues within Communication
Levels
There might arise a communication gap within every kind
of stakeholders involved within the project. The
stakeholders involved within the project should be able to
communicate with each other regarding each of the aspects
of the project. Non-verbal and verbal communication
should be introduced during the preparation stages of the
project. It should also be ensured that communication
between each of the members involved within the project
should be maintained at all of the levels.
The people within the managerial levels should gain
feedback from the people acquiring the training process.
This would help them in understanding whether the process
of training has been properly embedded within them.
Maintaining a clear level of communication would help in
maintaining a proper culture of work within the
organisation.
Improper management of
technical equipment
The training based activity for the project would incur the
use of different kind of technical equipment. Technical
based equipment that would be used for the project should
be procured on a prior basis. The list of technical equipment
that would be used within the training of staff should be
researched properly and thus should be listed accordingly.
A training documentation report should be prepared in order
to list the important kind of training materials that would be
required. The people who would incur the process of
training would need to gain a proper level of understanding
about each of the aspects in relation to the project. The
maintaining of documentation for the project would help in
improving the level of transparency for the project.
