Introduction
The term depression is defined as a common mental illness which
impacts the daily life activities of individuals. It is one of the serious
illnesses which are growing rapidly in the world and it increases the
problem of sadness in consumers (Baer, 2015). The aim of this report is
to review the evidence-based interventions and analyse the
pharmacological and therapeutic interventions in the context of
contemporary practice. There are several signs and symptoms of
depression illness such as sadness, feeling down, pleasure in daily
activities and so on. A literature review will be conducted for a better
understanding of evidence-based interventions and analyse the impact of
pharmacological and therapeutic intervention in the field of depression.
The current literature focuses on the viewpoints and results of previous
journal papers on evidence-based practices.
A critical review of current literature
Depression is one of the common mental illnesses which increase
the issue of sadness and stress in humans. In the last few years there are
numerous authors provided their views on this topic and analyse the
fundamental concept of evidence-based intervention. This section
highlights the opinions of authors and the results of previous studies
about depression illness.
Buntrock, et al., (2016) suggested that depression is defined as a
mood disease characterized by persistently low mood and a feeling of
sadness and loss of interest. It is very important to take proper treatment
for the diagnosis of the depression illness. Many health professionals
suggest evidence-based treatments because those have the potential for
determining the facts about depression and avoid them in an effective
manner. From this paper, it is analysed that psychological and social
both are very common factors that increase the issue of depression in

human and psychotherapy is one of the best treatment options for
depression.
A recent study identified that the pharmacological is a very
effective therapy for solving the issue of depression which involves
cognitive behavioural therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy. Mainly,
consumers who are suffering from depression require proper treatment
and care which can be provided by the health care providers and health
professional also suggest evidence-based therapies. Cleare, et al., (2015)
conducted a survey and identified that cognitive behavioural therapy is
another therapy that can be applied for depressive patients that focus on
the present situation of the patients.
Mainly, evidence-based intervention support a consumer to
recognize distorted thinking and then change their behaviour and
thinking in order to understand the impact of depression. From this
research study, it has found that pharmacological and therapeutic
interventions are used for major depression or bipolar depression where
these therapies protect functions of the body and improve the health of
depressive patients. In the context of contemporary practice, these types
of interventions include a brief electrical stimulation of the brain while
the patient is under anaesthesia.
According to Conway, George, & Sackeim, (2017), more than 7.6%
of individuals over the age of 12 have depression in any 2 week period
which is also linked with the issue of disability. From this paper, it is
estimated that more than 350 million individuals are affected this mental
illness globally and it is more common in women rather than men. The
evidence-based practice is a king of the process that provides a platform
for controlling and managing health-related issues faced by individuals.
Psychotherapy is a kind of evidence base approach which mainly focused
on the risk factors linked with the depression and provides better
treatment options to the patients.
