Designing and Configuring the Local Area Network_1
Technologies in use.
The network major factor in any organization where it enables easy management of the resources
and facilitates communication and hence enable cutting in terms of the operation costs involved.
The Perth local area network is one network system that will enable the connection of various
departments which are in one office which is located at Perth which includes Operations, Management
and Marketing department, therefore the department will be formed by connection of network to all these
departments [1].
In this network there will be an administrator therefore there will be two domains ,one for the
admin and other for the users.
The network implementation will require various types of technologies to enable this network meet all
the users needs, among the technology used will be .
i. Domain creation.
ii. DHCP server .
iii. WEB server.
iv. DNS server
v. And setting of privileges.
The domain name system however will be used to set the name of the web hosts which are in easy to
read by the human beings for instance www.xyz.com and this decode the IP address that is understood by
the computers ,however the main function of the DNS is to offer more information about the name of a
given domain like the Google or mailing services as well.
The DNS however emulate the phone books where they provides the names of certain ip addresses
which could be easily understood by the clients rather than the ip addresses.
The DHCP is a protocol that is client-server base however it is used in providing the hosts for the
internet protocols and also provides those hosts with respective information which includes the ip
addresses ,subnet masks and default gateways, therefore the implementation of the DHCP allows the
client computers in the network to obtain the relevant details about the IP configurations automatically
from the DHCP servers.
Therefore the beauty of the DHCP implementation will be to ensure that there is reliability in terms of
the configuration of the IP addresses where any error that could arise from the configurations which are
done manually leading to the multiple allocations of a single IP address to more than one computer.
The DHCP also is used to ensure that the administration in the network system is minimized since the
network administrator will not be forced to work hard to assign the configuration details to each and every
computer but it is done automatically by help of the DHCP server.
The web servers is also referred to as the HTTP server and it is mainly used to transmit the web pages
to any requesting clients as a response to whet they requested via the internet, there are other type of
computers which includes the computers which are configured to be dedicated network devices.

The web server also is also termed to be the clients to servers model, and the websites hosting server
are set to have some applications which are web server applications among the web-server applications
are the Apaches and it is the most common web server, the Microsoft internet information server (IIS) is
also another web server application, and the last application is called engine x application.
The above technologies however will be implemented technically by simulation using a packet tracer
to design the network and test various functionalities [2].
Implementation of technologies.
In order to be able to make use of the above technologies they will be implemented where each
step will be followed to allow all of them to be fully covered as follows.
Domain creation.
This is the first step where the network will be created using two domains which one is controlled
by the network administrator while the other one will be for the normal users, these domain will be
10.102.120.0 for the normal users and then 10.103.130.0 for the administrator ,where both will be having
mask network address 255.255.254.0 [3].
Below are the steps followed while implementing the domains.
1. Creation of the network and sections.
The network will be created to be like the one below to ensure all the domains and the departments are
covered a follows.

2. Configuring the router for the two IP address domains.
Since the network design is now implemented the next thing is to do the configuration where the two
network domains will be created for both the users and the administrators.
The below are the commands used .
i. The users domain configuration.
The users domain will require to be configured where the interface 0/0 will be allocated the address
10.102.120.1 and the subnet mask 255.255.254.0 this will allow the network to link the networks of the
users to the admin and also it will enable allocation of the ip address through the DHCP server.
Router>enable
Router#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Router(config)#int fa 0/0
Router(config-if)#ip address 10.102.120.1 255.255.254.0
Router(config-if)#no shutdown
ii. The administrators domain configuration.
Router>enable
Router#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Router(config)#int fa 0/1
Router(config-if)#ip address 10.103.130.1 255.255.254.0
