INTRODUCTION

Kyoto protocol and Obligations of Australia Under Protocol
The Kyoto protocol is international treaty that extends the 1992 united Nations
framework convention on climate change that commits state parties to reduce the greenhouse gas
emission that is based on the scientific consensus and the reason of greenhouse gas emission that
are considered in this protocol are activities of human that emits CO2 this protocol was adopted
in year 1997 in Japan (Barraclough and et.al., 2019). Objective of this protocol is to reduce the
concentration of greenhouse gases in the environment to prevent the global warming from
happening by prevent the interference of human activities in climate system. Kyoto protocol
applies on six greenhouse gases that are carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide
(N2O), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and Sulphure hexafluoride (SF6).
The obligation of Australia on the Kyoto Protocol is to reduce the greenhouse gas
emission as per the protocol decided by the United nations. The current targets of Kyoto protocol
is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases from the human activities and follows the frame
work that is proposed by the United nations to prevent global warming. These targets are
adequate for the good of environment and prevention of increment in temperature of atmosphere.
Asia Pacific Partnership on clean development and Climate
Asia pacific partnership is also known as APP. It was an international. Public Private,
voluntary among countries Australia, Canada, India, Japan, China, South Korea and united
Stated of America. Aim of this partnership is support the developing country to develop and
accelerate implementation of cleaner and more energy technologies to full fill national pollution
reduction. This is also important to reduce poverty and promote economic development.
Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999
The objective of Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBS
Act) is to provide protection to environment, specially significance of national environment ,
conserve Australian biodiversity (Nuttman and et.al., 2019). In this act government of Australia
proposed to protect and conserve climate and environment and enables them to join states and
local areas in providing a national scheme of environment and heritage protection and
biodiversity conservation. Different objectives of EPBC Act are-

4. Enhance the protection and management of important natural and cultural places.
5. Promote ecological sustainable development through conservation and sustainable use of
natural resources.

Australian biodiversity.
7. Use the knowledge of indigenous people about biodiversity by involvement and
cooperation with knowledgable people.
This act is very good to prevent the uncontrolled use of natural resources and biodiversity. This
will help the organization to meet the targets of Kyoto protocol.
Regulation of Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act
On Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act different regulations are
made by the legislative authority to ensure the prevention of greenhouse gases under the legal
laws. This can help various organization to know their limits that are related to the procedures
that produce different greenhouse gases (Vilaysouk, Schandl and Murakami, 2019). There are
different standards are defined by United nations in Kyoto Protocol to set certain limit on the rate
of emission of gases like Carbon dioxide, Nitrous Oxide and other green house gases. The rules
and targets of this protocol are guarded by lawsuit by the government of Australia. Through this
legal authorities are protecting the purposes of EPBC Act 1999. The purpose of this lawsuit is to
protect environment and biodiversity country have.
National Green House and Energy Reporting Scheme
This scheme was introduced in year 2007 to make data and accounting available for
greenhouse gas emission, energy consumption and production. Main objective of this scheme are
inform policy making and the Australian people, meet the obligation of international reporting
for international platform and provide frame work for energy and emission reporting. This
scheme is administrated by greenhouse and energy data officer on behalf of department of
Climate change and energy regulator took the role. The work of this scheme is to evaluate the
progress of Australia according to Kyoto Protocol obligations (Patten and Shin, 2019). Various
measures and processes are used in this scheme to make respective changes in approach to meet
essential target set by government and United states through Protocol.

Purpose and scope of Australian Packaging Covenant Voluntary Code of Practice
The Australian Packaging Covenant is based on the waste hierarchy. Priority of this
covenant is to avoid and minimise the waste in packaging. This process is followed by three
steps that are reuse, recycling, recovery and in end disposal. Packaging has major impact on
environment. By this practice impact of packaging on environment can be reduced. Various
performance goals are designing, recycling and product stewardship. In the design process
optimise packaging is resources are used efficiently and reduce its environmental impact of
packaging without compromising the quality and safety of product. In process of recycling used
packaging material is recycled for reuse and in product stewardship commitment is demonstrated
by all signatories (Matthews and Marston, 2019). The above explained goals can be achieved by
cooperative action of Covenant council and individual signatories. It has huge scope of
development in future because a lot of organization are trying to develop packaging process that
is environment friendly, recyclable, safe and secure for product.
Purpose and scope of Australian Eco Label Program
Purpose of Australian Eco Label program is to deliver the best sustainable outcomes by
cooperation of commercial, environmental and social objectives. Purpose of these codes is to
deliver product with high consumer protection with reducing burden of business. To achieve this
state organization need to be best designed, effectively implemented and enforced in right ways.
There are three types of eco label which are principles and procedures, self declaration and
environmental claims and environmental declaration. In first type labelling, principles and
procedures are established by the organization and third party certifications are used to verify
that services and products provided by company are matching with pre decided set criteria or not.
Second type of environment labelling are commonly used environmental claims, establishes use
use guidelines for the mobius loop marketing and suggests methodology for tests that can be
used to verify particular claims. The third type of labelling is known as environmental
declaration. It is a format for reporting quantifiable life cycle data describes the business to
business declaration and labels, that required independent verification of data. Third party
certification is not required only. Business to consumer declaration requires third party
declaration.

There are different sources that are present inside and outside the organization that can be
used to design the sustainability policy for organization (Bryan and et.al., 2016). Internal sources
for organization are various measures that are designed to check productivity of company and
waste management measures. This sources can be used to renew the sustainable policy and in
case of external sources organization can used various sources like journals, articles and books
that are explaining the sustainability and relative measures. This can help the organization to
make sustainable policy to meet environmental needs.
Steps of Policy Development
Different steps are required to make sustainability policy for organization and these steps
are identify needs, who will take the lead responsibility, collect respective information, draft the
policy, consult with stake holders, finalize the policy consider different procedures that are

the organization, employees purchases stationary only when it is required. Firm conducts

Facts, figures and benefits of sustainable business.
In Australia, during year 2015, approximately 64 million tonnes waste has been produced
by all the organizations, households etc. Nearly, 60% of this waste is recycled.
Company will get various benefits by implementing the initiatives for sustainable
business if, business takes initiatives to protect the environment then more customers will buy
the product of the firm. It will result in improvement in brand image. Further, it will also help to
reduce the cost of operations. Grow consultants should turn off the lights when it is not required.
